Here are the latest reviews of the Red Hen:

Overpriced/not impressed---My wife and I went to move my son into college. This restaurant was close by so we took a chance. The restaurant is old, unappealing and extremely small

Arrogant Staff & Dirty Flatware---On a business trip to VA we wanted to dine at a few independently run restaurants with decent reviews. We dined at The Red Hen long before all the controversy in the news, so this review is NOT in any way linked to that event....

Poor food with poor service---An unfortunate dinning experience. The atmosphere is not welcoming and the food that is given to eat is spiced with over-the-top selections.

Poor Value - Decent Food---I have more than 200 reviews from places all over the world including several in Lexington, VA where my husband and I visit annually

Mediocre---The food is mediocre, bad ingredients, and the personnel is rude

Very disappointed---I recently visited this restaurant. I have family in Lexington Virginia. Recently I headed with my daughter down towards the DC area as part of a trip looking for colleges.

Leave 5 star reviews having it best the finest of Paris, Milan or London. Crave about the farm raised catfish and tater tots.

Yeah well, they most likely know you’re a test but how do you know they wont spit in your food? I’ve worked from prep cook to sous chef to bartender in previous lives and staff do that when they hate the customer. Yeah, it’s not a myth. Seen it happen.

Yesterday, I heard some libs crying in their beers about how unjustly the Red Hen is being harassed by the nazi conservatives. It seems the ‘in’ thing to do is buy online gift certificates for meals at the place and then not use them. Basically, it is a donation. Being libs, my guess is they only said they bought certs but in reality, they don’t do squat! Except whine.

Boeuf Jesse Jaqueson... I saw a boot seaman apprentice do that in a galley I was assigned to a lifetime ago. He spent 3 months on “special” assignment scrubbing out garbage cans and dumpsters. We didn’t let him anywhere near food preps or on the line, and if he wasn’t cleaned up and in a fresh uniform at chow time, he ate out on the loading dock. The crew loathed that punk sob.

I’m glad the Red Hen is still feeling the backlash from refusing Sarah service a few weeks ago. However, looking closely at the reviews, I have to wonder if one person is writing and posting multiple reviews. Not that it isn’t deserved.

I saw at least three reviews that used the line
“It was like the waiters thought they were doing you a favor”. Three. And I only read about eight reviews.
The Red Hen will sink or float on it’s own weight.
We don’t need to use a Spin Machine to publicize it.

The leftist staff has probably found out the “secret” that we knew as soon as this all happened. If you aim for your main clientele to be libs, expect little or no tips. Duh.

A person must register with TripAdvisor before they can submit a review. The Red Hen reviews are from people who have previously reviewed hotels, restaurants, or attractions.

Guy came into a steak place that I worked at about 30 minutes before closing. Chef had already cleaned the grill and shut it down. Sent waitress out to see if they’d eat something from the fryer but the customer wanted steak since it’s what we were famous for. Customer insisted on a steak so the chef played catch with it for a few minutes before firing up the grill and serving it to him.

The smaller the place, the lower the cleanliness standard. But you go to a better place where standards are high like say a bar in a 4 star hotel where I worked in college part-time, you hear about it less. Man, the stories I could tell will fill this thread..

Waitered during university part time at a fancy Italian fusion place. Poor sap tells me, to tell the chef to ‘drain’ the marsala sauce from the entire sea bass dish which is stupid. Chef cooks another meal but tells the prep cooks to spit in the meal..which they did. I just handed the dish, explained the chef made a brand new dish especially for him. Let’s just say, i avoid that place after graduation.

Never upset the chef!! Another place I worked was buffett style. When it was Maria’s turn to make the potato salad, watch out. She would but all the ingredient’s in an industrial size garbage can and put her potato salad mixing tennis shoes on and jump into the garbage can to do her dance to mix the ingredients.

Employee’s got to eat for free so it was common to ask who made the potato salad. Maria would Hotsy her tennis shoes and let dry for her next turn.

Oh yeah, I make sure I SEE who made the employee meals before I dig in. I only worked at that place on-call for 2 years before I quit. I tell everyone, if you return a meal to have it altered, heated etc, it’s more than 50/50 you will get “extra” in it.

I worked in the food business and never saw anything done to food or I would of told the guest and quit the place and also told the owner or food and beverage director.

You don’t mess with people’s food that’s sick.
I cook mainly at home.
