I believe they are unarmed at the recruitment centers, also.
“President Trump to Review Ban on Military Personnel Carrying Firearms”
About time. Good.

It’s been awhile, so I ask out of ignorance...
Doesn’t everyone draw a weapon and ammo when they get assigned to the next duty station ?
It gives commanders broad authority to limit this for their installations
The Joint Base San Antonio Commander has shut down any non-duty carry of any weapons
Other around the nation have done the same
So bases are ‘may issue states’? OK, time to change them to shall issue.
Amidst all the good and bad that came up in that meeting yesterday President Trump was quite vocal and strong about the absurdity that military bases can’t defend themselves.
I flew in the Navy for 21 years as a bombardier/weapons officer. I was never given the right to any firearm, even in Vietnam. Very strange system.
Thanks marktwain.
I thought we fixed this in 2016 with DoD Directive 5210.56, Arming and the Use of Force.
Purely for show. It was an attempt to claim they were doing something, while insuring that nothing substantial was really done.
It gives commanders the authority to authorize people to carry weapons for defense, but does not require them to do so.
There are a thousand reasons for commanders to refuse to grant soldiers the ability to defend themselves, and almost no incentives for them to do so.

Pretty much
But he does not want military personnel under 21 to be able to buy these weapons? I wonder how they will get them?
I flew Marine Corps Prowlers and we flew with 9mm's when over Bosnia. Same with crews over Iraq.
No, he should let his subordinates/commanders deal with this. At this rate of micro-managing, pretty soon hell be inspecting the White House rest rooms.

I hope people contact him and encourage him to be the candidate we voted for, the one who supported Second Amendment and was wholeheartedly endorsed by NRA.
What does it say about America when those who are trained in the use of firearms to defend the nation are deemed incompetent to carry firearms...?
Except for being in transit, at every duty station, I drew a rifle and ammo...
sorry..meant to include you...see my post 19
