It’s been awhile, so I ask out of ignorance...
Doesn’t everyone draw a weapon and ammo when they get assigned to the next duty station ?

I flew in the Navy for 21 years as a bombardier/weapons officer. I was never given the right to any firearm, even in Vietnam. Very strange system.

Kind of. Everyone is assigned their weapons at a new unit, but they’re not issued/drawn unless you’re cleaning, training, at the range, etc. Ammo isn’t drawn unless on guard duty or range time. The only time you have your weapon on you 24/7 is basic or deployment usually.
