Looks to me like the Child Protective Services people also dropped the ball.
too little too late
this
I wonder whether this is a biological brother or an adoptive brother. Both nature and nurture can be factors in unprovoked violent behavior.
I’ll make the armchair psychiatrist’s diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia in the shooter, and throw in the brother as familial coincidence.
The kid didn't DO anything ...
And you're locking him up in a nut house ?!!??
The Baker Act in FL is like involuntary commitment statutes everywhere - you have to meet a pretty high standard of showing a danger to others or a danger to himself before commitment will be ordered. I can imagine the kid could be suicidal after seeing what his older brother did.
Sounds to me like the biological parents were brother and sister.
One assumes there was some kind of “episode” that brought on the situation.
They are biological from what I’ve read.
Biological brother, according to a number of articles.
Don’t think the Baker Act has a different time limit for minors.
I want to find out how many times the SHOOTER was “Baker Acted”.
Doesn’t say what the brother was doing to justify having him committed. Maybe they did it just because he was the brother of the shooter? Not many facts here.
That’s what I’m thinking.Hope they can keep him a little longer.
Broward county....nuff said
Because it’ll go a long way to the killer getting off with a nutso defense if the whole family is crazy. Could be Cruz’ attorney is playing this. 12 hours on a Saturday isn’t going to hurt the younger brother other than take him away from his video games. It might actually help him stay away from FB.
But, yes, in any other situation this would be the wrong move.
Much of that goofy county should be involuntarily committed.
Deschamps’ friend Chad Bennett said Nikolas Cruz chose to keep his gun, and moved in with another family while his younger brother stayed with Deschamps.
That family allowed Cruz to keep his gun in a locked cabinet and gave him the key, family lawyer Jim Lewis said.
Any word from this latest/other family?
Sounds to me like the biological parents were brother and sister.
?????
Do you have a link for that??
