NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WSET) - The latest poll from Christopher Newport University has Democratic candidate Ralph Northam in the lead to be Virginia's next governor.

The poll from the Wason Center for Public Policy shows Northam broke the 50 percent mark and extended his lead over Republican candidate Ed Gillespie.

The poll shows Northam is the choice for 50 percent of likely voters surveyed, while Gillespie is the choice of 43 percent.

According to the poll, Libertarian Cliff Hyra polled at 3 percent with 4 percent undecided.

The poll shows Northam is the choice for 50 percent of likely voters surveyed, while Gillespie is the choice of 43 percent.

According to the poll, Libertarian Cliff Hyra polled at 3 percent with 4 percent undecided.

Northam has led Gillespie throughout the Wason Center’s tracking series.

In the benchmark poll, released September 25, Northam’s lead stood at 6 percent (47 percent to 41 percent).

It grew to 7% (49 percent to 42 percent) in the first tracking poll, released October 9, then shrank to 4 percent in the second tracking poll, released Oct. 17.

“As we approach Election Day and the structure of the likely electorate becomes clearer, the advantage appears to be opening up for the Democratic ticket,” said Rachel Bitecofer, assistant director of the Wason Center. “We’re also seeing mounting evidence of a Trump Effect at the top of the ticket.”

The poll finds support in northern Virginia, the Richmond area, and Hampton Roads gives Northam widespread strength in the commonwealth's most populous regions.

It shows voters in more rural southwest and southside Virginia favor Gillespie.

According to the findings, Northam's demographic support is broad, as he leads among men and women, young and old, and African-Americans.

It shows Gillespie leads among white voters.

Two different polling outlets. This one has been pretty consistent - Gillespie has never been in the lead.

Yeah. The media will try to make a big deal out of this, but there are plenty of reasons not to:

1. Democrats haven’t lost a stateside race in 8 years.
2. Trump got beat there by 5%.
3. Gillespie is not a Trumpian candidate, although he’s been trying a little more towards the end to be.

If Northam beat a pro-Trump candidate in a state that Trump won by 5%, then I would be concerned.

This is what I expect. If the margins are similar to the election, then it shows not much has changed.

A seven point lead for democrats means the race is even. That’s the way it works in Virginia.

From Link:

A survey from the Princeton Election Consortium has found that Hillary Clinton has a 99 per cent chance of winning the election over Donald Trump.

Three days before the election, Ms Clinton has a projected 312 electoral votes, compared to 226 for Mr Trump. A total of 270 electoral votes are needed to win.

Perhaps we should consult President Hillary Clinton on the validity of this poll. :) In reality we do not know what is happening because most polls are bogus and simply political bull sh-t designed to influence the real poll on election day.

if they care, they shouldn’t need someone to fire them up.

if good isn’t up for election, but rather ‘distasteful’ and ‘evil’ are running, I would hope those voters would show up and vote for merely ‘distasteful’.

the lesser of two evils as they say.

I am not thrilled with Gillespie, but one reason and pretty much the only reason I would like a Republican to win this is because of Redistricting in 2020. It will be a disaster if a Democrat wins this time. We will lose seats all over the state both federal and state. Count on it.

Democrats have done nothing but lose the last few years, and they are super lazy so rarely come out well in midterms. They will have the hardcore liberal morons and the ballot stuffers but I don’t think it will be enough. They will lose and CNN will say it’s a draw since they win jersey lol.

NOVA needs to be severed from Virginia. It sucks at the tit of the federal Marxist cow and has NOTHING in common with the rest of the commonwealth.

Virginia needs to divide again - it’s just wrong for a small geographical area that is really an extension of DC to control the rest of the state.

But how in the world do we do that?

“I live in Fairfax and it makes me sad how liberal the county has become.”

Just in the last 10 years has been rather stunning. I’m in the Hampton Roads area and overall it’s still generally conservative, but some locales are dragging it downward.

Re Northern VA, Falls Church doesn’t even look American anymore.

The huge numbers of illegal aliens (Hispanics) and green card non citizens (Indians, Bangladeshi, Middle Eastern) voting in democrat controlled Northern Virginia have changed a solid red state (2004) into a solid blue state forever.

Gillespie, a NeverTrump Establishment guy can only hope that Northampton insults a transgender NFL black in the next week.

“Unless NOVA stay home, the Democrats win”

There are other big blue blobs in other metro areas in Virginia as well. But nothing as menacing as NOVA.

It will be the house of delegates that will keep the elected governor (which ever one wins) in check.
