You may want to check out the
Gokhale Method.
A lot of it seems to make sense. Essentially, the basic point of it is this: chronic back pain is relatively rare, even in cultures which are sedentary, or do grueling physical labor, or live in areas where medical care is primitive at best -- but it is chronic and common in "Western" countries. And the commonality shared by these people in more primitive cultures is that they are taught, from a young age, to stand very differently than Westerners (or, more accurately, they are not taught to stand, but do so naturally, whereas we are encouraged to have postures that, ultimately, are chronically stressful).
They stand differently, they walk differently, they sit differently, and they lay down differently. By transitioning people from the 'S-curve', to more of a 'J-curve', many people have found that back pain starts to disappear, since your weight is borne more effectively.
I am not a huge fan of her book, in that it is not well written, but there is no denying the impact. I went from frequently being unable to get out of bed in less than 1/2 an hour, to almost never having pain.
Either way, it may be worth checking out.

All I see and hear are Commercials for Companies that sell Back and Knee Braces, as long as you have Medicare.
Sounds like a rip off knowing that they probably Bill the Taxpayers through Medicare Hundreds of dollars for something that would cost you no more than $50 at Walmart.

This is BULLSHIT if you are dealing with 5 lumbar discs all producing severe foraminal stenosis on one side or the other. Add PN and tell me all about the great lyrica or gabapentin. Treating severe pain requires 270 MED of Morphine as a damn MINIMUM.

I was plagued by frequent back aches in the center of my back for many years, never suspected it was wholly caused by a poor diet with too much sugar! Since massaging the area provided some relief I always wrongly assumed it was a surface issue rather than something caused by food.
I started a ketogenic diet just to lose a few pounds less than a year ago and found that many unexpected aspects of my life were transformed by it. I'm young again in energy levels and have zero aches and pains anymore and have no problem engaging in frequent exercise. I sleep so much better and am clearer headed as well, all of that just by cutting out sugars and processed foods.

On the other hand I was quite active before the back injury. Pretending exercises cure everything is foolish. Without surgery I would have had decades of pain and been unable to have a normal life.

Anyone have an opinion on “Becoming a Supple Leopard” by Dr Kelly Starrett?

I picked up my Tens unit from the VA today
The VA finally put me on Salsalate, 750mg as needed
And I was today approved to see the chiropractor of my choice. All three work for me.

Good for you! I just wanted to comment about the use of Opiates. I'm 74 and have chronic lower back and hip issues. I have had two knee replacement surgeries, wrist surgery with 4 screws that prevents me from moving my wrist in the down position. A totally torn rotator cuff surgery that still bothers me. I confess that I use hydro condone 7.5 one tablet approximately two or three times a month. I cut 4 acres of grass that takes about 3.5 hours of cutting on my zero turn. In my particular case there is a need for this pain medication. If used judiciously, especially for older folks, it truly helps and shouldn't, in my opinion, be universally frowned upon.

I had a laminectomy, L-4 and 5. It worked perfectly. I highly recommend my doctor and Andrews Institute. I woke up in the Recovery Room with no pain and haven’t had any since and that was 4 years ago. I could barely walk before the surgery.

My nerves in my lower back are so pinched my toes hurt, I walk several steps to straighten, etc. No meds, no treatment. Im getting older. Nobody said it would be pain free. Days I weld and lift a lot of heavy steel or lift a lot of other heavy stuff like bags of concrete or am in and out of the tractor a lot I hurt a lot. I endure and my wife takes pity on me sometimes and rubs some magnesium gel on my toes and legs.
Most people are irresponsible and consume a lot of what they pay little for. Thank entitlements and welfare. I pay for all I use and the money comes hard.
“Pain” clinics are all along I-40. Doctors, pffft. They are nothing but barely legal drug pushers. I hate abusers of any goodwill, crooks, druggies, malingerers, wimps, cronic whiners and enablers. That covers a lot of no goods.

Studies show that selective cases where physical therapy is unsuccessful, surgery works. The article here is referring to the poor results following fusion surgery esp for those over 54. Back surgery, like in your case, can work.
If you’re off pain meds, then you’re a success story.
