Federal gas tax increase - - please!
vanity | 5/9/2017 | finnsheep

If there were ever a time to increase the gas tax it would be NOW! A tax bill is in the works. The Democrats want it "paid for." Oil price is way down and not likelihood of an increase soon. High tech improvements to oil discovery and production have drastically reduced oil prices.

I am happy to pay more for a gas tax that would improve road and bridge infrastructure. PA increased the gas tax and nobody fussed much. A federal gas tax hike is long overdue and Democrats would vote for it!

“Oil price is way down and not likelihood of an increase soon. “

Oddly, the price at the pumps keeps going UP.

I definitely want a higher gas tax to fund my special snowflake friends’ schemes.

It would be ecologically unfriendly to spend it on roads and bridges.

Unfortunately, the Federal gas tax is used to fund urban mass transit.

It is also used as a club to enforce federal desires on the states.

Dumbest idea I have heard yet.
Taxes from road tolls, gas etc NEVER get used for what they were slated for.
EVER.
And we are Taxed Enough Already.
Reduce waste, reduce redundant programs, stop spending money of “transgender studies” and similar BS, AND STOP PAYING FOR OVERPRICED POLITICIANS.
They can get the same pay as the LOWEST paid employee within their districts.

Troll or “do anything he says” Trump supporter? Hard to tell these days.

Feel free to send the DoT whatever you feel is the right amount for the tax. I’m sure a bridge will be fixed soon after.

PA increased the gas tax and nobody fussed much.

Uh -- whut?

The PA gas tax hike was one of the main reasons Governor Tom Corbett was voted out of office.

Your argument for a fuel tax hike isn't outlandish, but there are a lot of other things on the table that need to be addressed as well. Personally, I would like Congress to consider a Federal surcharge on new vehicle sales instead of a fuel tax, since we are seeing more and more electric vehicles that don't pay any taxes at all.

I’m with you. Consumption taxes are much more fair in principle than are income taxes.

More taxes only give the politicians more money to divert to their pet projects. Colorado raised automotive “fees” to pay for roads but decided to use the money for bicycle paths. The Gas taxes, road taxes and such go to the general funds so they can be diverted to whatever the liberals want.

Why not just make a law that Gas and Road taxes be put in a road fund to fix roads not the general funds.

We do not need more taxes, we need honest politicians

Fuel tax is based on a gallon not on price. Stop wasting money on pet projects and maintain our infrastructure. That is the answer.

Why give more resources for big cities to consume. Rural areas need repair not bike paths like Colorado uses gas tax for.!!

You CAN write a check to your Government if you feel that strongly about it. Please though, keep your hands off my wallet

Nope. No sense in lowering tax rates just to increase gas tax.

Gov’t must learn to do more with less just like businesses do every day.

So you don’t feel like you are paying enough taxes yet?

Hard to believe a member of this forum for 17 years could think that way.

This my fellow FR friends is why we are doomed.

“Oil price is way down and not likelihood of an increase soon.”

How soon?
“The huge surplus of oil that’s been sloshing through global markets is set to evaporate.”

Find another excuse.

How about spending LESS and taxing LESS! If the government can’t work with some modicum of efficiency now, they don’t deserve any more money.
