I live in rural Pennsylvania. I went to Connecticut this weekend where gasoline was 80 cents cheaper.
80 cents. Connecticut. Ridiculous.

You already are. Unfortunately, that part's being diverted to pay for mass transit that almost no one uses and which doesn't pay gas taxes.
Abolish the Income Tax and then we’ll talk.
P. J. O'Rourke, Parliament of Whores
Yes, the increase would be used for highways like the taxes on hunting goods have been used for hunting, etc. Most states will just dump it in the general fund and use it for crony capitalist projects.
Yeah. What’s up with that? I’m convinced that the price of oil per barrel has nothing to do with the price of gasoline at the pump. Only in the most general terms.
The Federal tax is 18.4 cents - October 1997 through today.
Here is a listing by date for the Federal Gasoline tax since
it was originated in June 1932.
NO! How about we eliminate the federal gas tax and let the states set a gas tax appropriate for their road and bridge repair needs. There is no reason to send the money to DC just so they can take their percentage before redistributing it to those with the best connections.
NO! Michigan too recently increased the gas tax to pay for "road and bridge infrastructure"..........
Talk to your state legislators, maybe they can help you out because I don't want to.
No money for mass transit
No money for education ( a common diversion)
Then we can talk about what is actually needed.
Why don’t we cut out wasteful spending first? Giving the government more money has never solved anything as they just keep increasing the amount they spend.
Maybe if we started a lottery we could use all the proceeds to fund our roads.......oh wait
You forgot the satire tag.
The federal government is grossly oversized. Every additional dollar adds to that size.
The only problem is that the tax monies taken in will NOT be used to fund highway infrastructure. It will be used for “ass transit” boondoggles (Boston “Big Dig”, California high-speed trains, and on and on). Fugeddaboutit.

Throw in padlocks on surplus/underused properties, do away with palatial offices, manicured campuses, and RIF the useless drones on top of getting rid of the income tax and then I might listen.
