At a news conference Friday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, in partnership with City Councilmembers Jason Rogers Williams and James Gray and New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison announced a new city ordinance aimed at promoting gun safety in New Orleans.

I believe Louisiana prohibits cities from passing gun control laws. I suppose it’s too much to hope for that the penalty for doing so involves jail time for the politicians involved...

I believe Louisiana prohibits cities from passing gun control laws. Yes, IIRC the city tried something like this around fifteen years ago, and was eventually slapped-down by the state supreme court.

All aspiring rappers promise to report their lost and stolen weapons. No issuing gun licenses to folks who beat, strangle and stab their spouses will obviously put an immediate stop to the beatings and stranglings and stabbings. And love and peace will cover the land, kumbayah!

I guess if the gun is used in the commission of a crime and it could be traced to the original owner, then the cops know that the gun has been missing for more than 48 hours.

Except how do they prove the owner knew it was missing. Example: A cleaning lady snagged it a month ago...but the owner hadn’t checked on it since.

Most guns go missing in home and car burglaries. And if I owned a gun, I would want to keep track of it more often than a few months.

What if you have 50 or 100 Guns and one goes missing? Is one supposed to do a count each night before they go to bed? Patently Unconstitutional.
A guy I know who works as an FFL and buys collections said there was an estate he bought in which the guy, a WW2 vet, had 900 Guns scattered throughout the house. So if one goes missing does that make him a criminal?
The only criminals are the politicians passing these laws.
