Cash flowing into Nevada's battle over gun background check measure

The gun lobby is often portrayed as a goliath, but in the fight in Nevada over the Background Check Initiative, it might be the underdog.

That is, if the campaign to extend background check requirements to private-party gun sales and transfers unfolds like it did in 2014 for a similar measure in Washington state, where the gun lobby was outspent several times over.

The gun control movement has had a renaissance since the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders and six teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School were killed by a gunman who then took his own life.

In Nevada, gun rights advocates are already arguing that the Background Check Initiative is the latest attempt by billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to force his agenda on other states. Gun control advocates, on the other hand, argue that states that have adopted restrictions on firearms beyond federal laws have seen dramatic reductions in gun violence

Flowing? More like a trickle right now but will become a torrent before (s)election day. How about you assclowns stay out of our state and I promise I'll stay out of your state. Why would there be any argument about nannie bloomers and the mommunists being behind the "attempt" to try to curtail our rights. Ain't no argument to be had.

The best line to take is to declare it an attempt to buy influence.

I’ve got faith that all that money is being wasted on a losing proposal. In fact, I hope they spend millions more.

Bloomturd is also targeting Maine this year.

Emotional, clueless liberal females signed the stupid petitions. Signatures were gathered here in Maine by a Washington, D.C. group with ties to Hillary and the AFL-CIO.

Reduce “gun violence” in Maine? Crime is very low here. Recently, though, black and Puerto Rican drug dealers from New York City, Connecticut and Massachusetts have been targeting Maine.

Constitutional Carry went into effect here in October.

Does the NRA plan to spend money in Nevada and Maine to fight these out-of-state gun grabbers? If not, why not?

We need to start using the term “extremists” when referring to gun grabbers...the same for liberals, call them “extremists” or even “political terrorists”

zackly what happened in NV. Promise of a total end to “gun violence” and as an add on, total end to “domestic violence” as well. After all, what sort of neanderthal supports violence anyway? The ladies bought it hook, line and sinker.

—the NRA is already in the fight—unfortunately, Bloomberg alone can spend more than the NRA budget-—

NRA is very effective on a national level. Here in AZ we have AZCDL, who organize on a local level. Your state probably has something similar and you should join to fight the big city gun grabbers.

The Bloomberg funded disarmist have enough money to run a very effective, sophisticated and organized project.

It will be hard, but not impossible to stop it.

They use sophisticated data mining methods and alroythms, likely purchased from Google and others, (who will not sell them to Conservatives) to identify and target those who are ignorant and susceptible to their propaganda.

Then they send those people personalized propaganda aimed at getting them to the polls on election day so as to “save lives”.

For example: They monitor online advertising for firearms. When someone advertises a firearm for sale on Armslist, they list it as another potential criminal sale to a felon or domestic abuser because of no required background check. They send that information to the targeted audience.

They use Bloomberg funded “studies” that find a state where some aspect of crime went up after gun sales were a little deregulated, and claim it as scientific proof that regulating sales decreases crime.

They look for a state that increased regulation, and had a drop of some kind of crime afterward, and tout that as scientific proof that increased regulation stops crime.

None of this withstands objective scrutiny, but the people they are peddling it too are not looking elsewhere. And it only has to convince them long enough for them to vote the one time.

It is much like the “Global Warming” or “Climate Change” hoax. Only it happens quickly, with lots of funding, before enough people educate themselves.

It has to be fought with the same level of sophistication on the net, and with a massive public education campaign in the media.

That did not happen in Washington State. In Oregon, Bloomberg just bought the legislature.

In Washington State, the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association let their rivalries stop a unified effort. The NRA gave minimal assistance; the SAF effort gave a devided message. Second Amendment supporters lost.

It will happen again, if the threat is not taken seriously.

The guy collecting signatures wasn’t emailing people or buying targeted ads. He stood in front of the polling station and asked people loaded questions. Most gave him the bird but one lone person of a particular profile got snookered into signing the petition even though we yelled “HE’S LYING!”

That’s about as low tech as you can get.

Just because they use low tech does not mean they won’t use high tech.

I hope their effort fails miserably in Maine, Nevada, and elsewhere.

I have seen similar, but less sophisticated methods work in Arizona, where outside money and a sympathetic media caused a complete reversal of what you would expect.

Yeah, it’s going to be pretty insane trying to overcome the gun grabbing machine.

It saddens me they got enough signatures for the ballot measure. People move here from other states all the time seeking liberty. then they turn around in the next breath to sign it away.
