The guy collecting signatures wasn’t emailing people or buying targeted ads. He stood in front of the polling station and asked people loaded questions. Most gave him the bird but one lone person of a particular profile got snookered into signing the petition even though we yelled “HE’S LYING!”
That’s about as low tech as you can get.
Just because they use low tech does not mean they won’t use high tech.
I hope their effort fails miserably in Maine, Nevada, and elsewhere.
I have seen similar, but less sophisticated methods work in Arizona, where outside money and a sympathetic media caused a complete reversal of what you would expect.
