Childish, if you ask me. Especially coming from an adult.

They do get special treatment though. They get discounts off Oakley, Raybans, car dealerships, many, many restaurants, you would be surprised at how much discount they get too.

These are all voluntary. Merchants give discounts to veterans, active military, seniors, teachers, etc. That's their choice.

I'm referring to a law that mandates special treatment.

"I'm referring to a law that mandates special treatment."

And that would be what laws? I personally don't know of any except some benefits for families of LEOS killed in the line of duty.

And then they leave a tip for the wait staff that equals the difference. I do it all the time.

My brother-in-law was contacted by the local community college to teach a couple of criminal justice classes in the evening hours a few years back at the last minute, literally a day before classes were to start as adjunct faculty and he told them with the way his schedule worked he would have to come straight from work and still be in uniform to make the set hours for the classes.

The campus administrator was fine with that except he told my BIL he could not bring his sidearm even on the campus parking lot even in uniform this was a gun free zone even to police officers off duty. My BIL said not a problem, you need to find someone else to teach your classes, if I am in uniform my sidearm stays on me period, and was concluding the phone call with good day and the administrator was babbling wait-wait-wait, you can carry, you can carry all of a sudden. The administrator never tried to stop him from carrying his sidearm again whenever he taught.

I was referring to laws that force private property owners to admit police onto their property except on official police business -- with or without their guns.

I'm not aware of any, but there are 57 states and I only know about one of them. But, I maintain: there shouldn't be one, because it is violation of the 5th Amendment, as it is a form of "taking" property for public use, without compensation.

Olive Garden Corp claims it was a misunderstanding. Maybe so. But it is either a projection of a corporate mentality, a failure to properly express the corporate policy to staff and management, or a tacit acceptance of whatever local franchises do with regard to anti-gun policies that encouraged this type of response to a “gun”.

I guess someone doesn't like getting called out over special treatment.

I think it was, as well -- a clueless hostess that wasn't properly trained. She should have been trained that you don't ask someone to leave... that's the job of the manager, who presumably does know the policy, and all the subtleties.

But the "misunderstanding" was Olive Garden's fault. Their policy should be clear, and their employees should know the policy. If an employee violates the policy, the employee should be disciplined. I'm not suggesting she should be fired, unless she has been a recurring problem.

***************

In large organizations it’s easy to get screw ups with regards to policy, etc. That I
understand. Olive Garden used to and maybe still does offer free meals/discounts to veterans
on Veterans Day. I know because I’ve eaten free meals there as a participant. Thus I don’t
think of them as a no good corporation.

But my point is I think the police shouldn’t just walk away. Rather I’d like to see
the Chief, etc come walking into the restaurant and asked why his officer is being denied
service. In other words sit in your car outside, call your commander and lets talk turkey with
the owner/manager right now.

Maybe that’s a no no approach but I bet it would get some immediate attention. Take care.

Not true. Police are not a protected class. Although they might think they are. Homosexuals may be depending on where you are. Blacks definitely are.

A business can freely discriminate against accountants, attorneys, police, nurses or piano players if they so choose. Not a smart thing in my book, but its legal.

I think one of the best ways to stop this crap is to start publishing the name of the waiter/waitress who made the decision to be an ass.
