Olive Garden Corp claims it was a misunderstanding. Maybe so. But it is either a projection of a corporate mentality, a failure to properly express the corporate policy to staff and management, or a tacit acceptance of whatever local franchises do with regard to anti-gun policies that encouraged this type of response to a “gun”.

I think it was, as well -- a clueless hostess that wasn't properly trained. She should have been trained that you don't ask someone to leave... that's the job of the manager, who presumably does know the policy, and all the subtleties.

But the "misunderstanding" was Olive Garden's fault. Their policy should be clear, and their employees should know the policy. If an employee violates the policy, the employee should be disciplined. I'm not suggesting she should be fired, unless she has been a recurring problem.

In large organizations it’s easy to get screw ups with regards to policy, etc. That I
understand. Olive Garden used to and maybe still does offer free meals/discounts to veterans
on Veterans Day. I know because I’ve eaten free meals there as a participant. Thus I don’t
think of them as a no good corporation.

But my point is I think the police shouldn’t just walk away. Rather I’d like to see
the Chief, etc come walking into the restaurant and asked why his officer is being denied
service. In other words sit in your car outside, call your commander and lets talk turkey with
the owner/manager right now.

Maybe that’s a no no approach but I bet it would get some immediate attention. Take care.
