Some mind numb $8/hr hostess becomes an idiot and it makes the news. Feel sorry for Olive Garden.

what??? On duty don’t count??

No, it doesn't -- unless he was actively investigating a crime or acting in "exigent circumstances".

If he was simply on break, a property owner has a right to exclude police from the premises, with or without guns -- just like they can exclude you and me.

It's a stupid thing to do, and anyone that does it is subject to criticism, and even responsibility if something bad happens. But, it's their choice.

She should have asked for a show of hands, how many guns were already in the restaurant.

“he (the cop) ranted in a Facebook post Sunday afternoon.”

Good old MSN: a guy who puts his life on the line every day is embarrassed for no good reason, and he’s “ranting”.

Don’t boycott Olive Garden because of some dumb hostess. Get a grip.

My question: was the officer in uniform?

Sorry, I didn't see the opening line:

A uniformed Kansas City, Mo., cop hoping to celebrate his birthday....

I'll plead incapacitation due to Monday morning.

The hostess “asked,” the cop “ranted.”

Ah, the language of the praetorian media....

Olive Garden is like eating canned tomato sauce and referring to it as “gravy.”

You are better off pulling any Italian recipe off the internet and trying it yourself. If you screw that up, THAT would be better Italian food than Olive Garden on its best day.

“The chain’s president, Dave George, has since called Holsworth to apologize, said Lemon, the order’s liaison to Kansas police.”

***************

This is after the fact. What I’d like the police to do is make the issue at the moment
of confrontation and get media and public support while it is going down, not afterwards.

Its private property. They can exclude anyone they want. That doesn’t mean you have to shop or eat there. The food sucks so I don’t know why you’d want to eat there anyway.

And before we get all excitable, we might want to ask how this is any different from say refusing to bake a cake for gays or declining to sell cans of gasoline to OWS activists.

The obvious tool is the boycott. I don’t support gungbrabbers, so I urge people not to eat crappy Italian food at this restaurant.

I have been to Olive Garden one time, in Florida and was served what appeared to me to be a child’s portion, a small child at that.

Tried out a restaurant in Houston suburbs this weekend. Apparently been there quite a while but never noticed it before. Several policemen sitting in the outside area - and yes they were armed. Ashtrays on every table, great food, awesome service, Led Zeppelin music in the background, some interesting beers. We’re definitely going back.

“Law enforcement are always welcome to dine (with) us — we heart serving them and have great relationships,”

I can decipher it...

They got their butt caught in a major public relations crack, and responded high-schoolishly.

I am sure a robber or someone bent on committing mass murder will respect Olive Gardens gun policy.
Yep, the patrons and staff are perfectly safe in their ‘gun free’ fantasy land.

Their policy is... take food service meals that are bland... add a bunch of salt and garlic for flavor... play commercials of what are obviously the happiest people on the face of the earth... with wait staff that are high on cocaine. (because nobody is that damn happy all the time)

No they cannot exclude anyone they want;as a business serving the public they may not exclude blacks, homosexuals, or police who simply want their services.

Overpriced and overrated. Don’t know when we ate there last. Not recently. - This little girl might *wish* for a policeman with a gun some day.
