Maybe we can all spend that big refund check we got back during the Clinton years from THE PEACE DIVIDEND. Oh, that’s right, the Democrats just used that money to buy more votes. Raise your hand if you think your federal taxes will go down if they cut retired military pay. I don’t see any hands up. So if the money doesn’t go to the retired military, where does it go? Isn’t it good to know that those Democrat United States Representatives and Senators don’t represent everyone in their district and state? They represent only certain people. Remember that.

We don’t need to compete. If you want restrictions on imports from unfree or hostile countries that is one thing, but a blanket tariff is nothing but a general tax hike.

The young are pitted against the old, those with jobs are pitted against those who are currently unemployed, those who may have a job with the Federal government (even those in a valid agency like NASA, DoD, FBI, etc) are immediately hated, and on and on.
The difference in the pension crisis of Social Security, or a State pension, and a military pension is striking in may ways. What is hard for most people to immediately want to contemplate is that the military will only give you 50% of your "base" salary after 20 years. Congress did this on purpose, not allowing your housing or other significant portions of the salary to count towards retirement for ONE REASON - and that was make a military individuals retirement pension much, much smaller. Whereas a NY State Trooper can pad his pension in the last year by stacking his salary with overtime and easily collect 6 figures for the rest of his life, a military NCO with 20 years collect below US poverty line annual wages.
You will always find Freepers that wish to argue with you about things, from religion to money. That is what this place is for. You just have to stand your ground when you know you are in the right. Import tariffs were good enough for our founding fathers. And served this country well for it's first 190 years.
Lower income and corporate taxes by the amount raised by the tariffs and it won't be a tax hike at all.

I was half tempted to call Bill Bennett during his Morning in America show last week. Bennett is one of Ryan's mentors. I wanted to ask Bill to attempt to talk some sense into Ryan. He has no idea the damage he has done with this "deal." The GOP will lose the military and veteran vote, perhaps for a decade or longer.
I listened to Ryan this weekend, and he is unrepentant and out of control. He really does not care, and I doubt he will listen to anyone until he realizes that he made a horrible mistake.
The spending, deficit and debt is at a point where I’m not going to complain about any cuts of any kind. The debt is our greatest national security crisis and national security takes precedent over everything else the government does. My complaint is that any budget that raises taxes or fees and/or increases spending is absolutely unconscionable and unacceptable given our situation.
Pelosi already said it will be done next year as a separate bill. And the veterans will get their benefits restored. Thus, this bill is actually a huge spending INCREASE.
The point is pretty obvious. It's open season "now or never" to stop conservative ideas from being enacted. The RINOs and dems did this together to try to destroy their real enemy, constitutional conservatives.

Don’t tell me Pelosi is doing the right thing for a change. Holy Cow. Pelosi becoming a pro-military while freaking Ryan becoming a first class jerk. Well this has been wide awaking. It is stunning that Ryan who has collected Social Security from youth to 22 (he started getting it before the Reagan change) and then works for big bucks in the Congress has the NERVE to take what little military gets and is going to cut the COLA. Pelosi doing the right thing is kind of weird to hear but we are in seriously weird times.
Eliminate pensions for Congress. They’re all filthy rich anyway.
The military has grown to expect from Democrats, this type of thing. Consistently.
When Republicans go after benefits and don’t defend the military, there’s no protection at all.
Read Rudyard Kipling above. He understood it. The nature of Western civilization regarding the military. And with Republicans now leading, the civilian population had better be advised about something: the military CANNOT speak out about how the public treats them, and this is the public doing this, voting these politicians in, not defending them.
When not the best goes into the military, not wanting abuse, who’s going to defend the country? No one? WE don’t have enemies?
