U.S. Admits for First Time Drones Killed 4 Americans
New York Times ^ | May 22, 2013 | Charles Savage

One day before President Obama is due to deliver a major speech on national security, his administration on Wednesday formally acknowledged that the United States had killed four American citizens in drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan.

In a letter to Congressional leaders obtained by The New York Times, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. disclosed that the administration had deliberately killed Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric who was killed in a drone strike in September 2011 in Yemen.

The American responsibility for Mr. Awlaki’s death has been widely reported, but the administration had until now refused to confirm or deny it.

The letter also said that the United States had killed three other Americans: Samir Khan, who was killed in the same strike; Mr. Awlaki’s son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who was also killed in Yemen; and Jude Mohammed, who was killed in a strike in Pakistan.

“These individuals were not specifically targeted by the United States,” Mr. Holder wrote.

While rumors of Mr. Mohammed’s death had appeared in local news reports in Raleigh, N.C., where he lived, his death had not been confirmed by the United States government until Wednesday.

According to former acquaintances of Mr. Mohammed in North Carolina, he appears to have been killed in a November 2011 drone strike in South Waziristan, in Pakistan’s tribal area. Mr. Mohammed’s wife, whom he had met and married in Pakistan, subsequently called his mother in North Carolina to tell her of his death, the friends say.

It's not yet a Republican 'Christmas' but I am certain it's not very far off, with Hillary's chicken farm coming home to roost that will have schadenfreude re-defined in a wholly nearly unrecognizable way.

How many people have gone to jail from all these scandals? How many are going to? How many cabinet members have resigned in disgrace? How many are going to?

None, none, none, and none. The Republicans in Congress aren't interested in putting criminals in jail and saving the country. All they see in these scandals is more election victories so they can get better committee assignments. Until top Democrats are being frog marched out of court in orange jumpsuits then it doesn't matter how many scandals come to light.

Treasury Designates Anwar Al-Aulaqi, Key Leader of Al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula

Treasury Designates Anwar Al-Aulaqi, Key Leader of Al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula

Treasury Targets al-Qa’ida Leader with Ties to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury today designated Anwar al-Aulaqi, a key leader for al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a Yemen-based terrorist group. Aulaqi was designated pursuant to Executive Order 13224 for supporting acts of terrorism and for acting for or on behalf of AQAP. Since its inception in January 2009, AQAP has claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks against Saudi, Korean, Yemeni and U.S. targets. Executive Order 13224 freezes any assets Aulaqi has under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. persons from engaging in any transactions with him.

“Anwar al-Aulaqi has proven that he is extraordinarily dangerous, committed to carrying out deadly attacks on Americans and others worldwide,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey. “He has involved himself in every aspect of the supply chain of terrorism — fundraising for terrorist groups, recruiting and training operatives, and planning and ordering attacks on innocents.”

Aulaqi has pledged an oath of loyalty to AQAP emir, Nasir al-Wahishi, and plays a major role in setting the strategic direction for AQAP. Aulaqi has also recruited individuals to join AQAP, facilitated training at camps in Yemen in support of acts of terrorism, and helped focus AQAP’s attention on planning attacks on U.S. interests.

Since late 2009, Aulaqi has taken on an increasingly operational role in the group, including preparing Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who attempted to detonate an explosive device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day 2009, for his operation. In November 2009, while in Yemen, Abdulmutallab swore allegiance to the emir of AQAP and shortly thereafter received instructions from Aulaqi to detonate an explosive device aboard a U.S. airplane over U.S. airspace. After receiving this direction from Aulaqi, Abdulmutallab obtained the explosive device he used in the attempted Christmas Day attack.

Aulaqi was imprisoned in Yemen in 2006 on charges of kidnapping for ransom and being involved in an al-Qa’ida plot to kidnap a U.S. official but was released from jail in December 2007 and subsequently went into hiding in Yemen.

“Aulaqi has sought to encourage his supporters to provide money for terrorist causes. Those who provide material support to Aulaqi or AQAP violate sanctions and expose themselves to serious consequences,” continued Levey.

Today’s action supports the international effort to degrade AQAP’s capabilities to execute violent attacks and to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat its financial and support networks. The U.S. Government will continue to work with allies to identify and take action against persons acting for or on behalf of, or providing financial and other prohibited support to, Aulaqi and AQAP.

Identifying Information

Individual: Anwar al-Aulaqi AKA: Anwar al-Awlaki AKA: Anwar al-Awlaqi AKA: Anwar Nasser Aulaqi AKA: Anwar Nasser Abdulla Aulaqi AKA: Anwar Nasswer Aulaqi DOB: April 21, 1971 Alternate DOB: April 22, 1971 POB: Las Cruces, New Mexico Citizenship: United States Citizenship: Yemen Location: Shabwah Governorate, Yemen

Why do I have the feeling that all of this is just a distraction?

“Abdulrahman al-Awlaki and Why You Shouldn’t Stand Next to an Al Qaeda Terrorist”

February 6, 2013 By Daniel Greenfield

SNIPPET: “Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was not an innocent American teenager cruelly assassinated by the United States. He was the son of an Al Qaeda leader who happened to be standing next to another Al Qaeda leader who was the actual target of an infidel drone.

If you happen to be standing next to an Al Qaeda leader, then you might find yourself swimming downstream to the virgins, regardless of whether you have an American passport.

Should the United States ascertain that there is absolutely no one with an American passport in the vicinity of an Al Qaeda leader before the drone gets sent in?

Or perhaps we should only kill terrorists when there isn’t anyone around them for miles? Or better yet, maybe we shouldn’t kill terrorists at all. Maybe we should try to capture each and every one, regardless of how many men die doing it, and then take them back for a civilian trial, give them four ACLU lawyers and then release them a year later because of a lack of due process?

That’s what the left wants. That’s what the people turning Abdulrahman al-Awlaki into a martyr want.”

I'm not at all in disagreement with you.

I'm quite aware of the apathy by Republicans and the chances of political, criminal retribution ever coming to fruition. The term I used was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, playful, an attempt to be amusing and not taken expressed in any literal sense.

Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime have been my haven this year so far.

I’ve watched more television this year than ever trying to keep my mind preoccupied.

It has worked, but I’m really sick of watching shows. I’m able to back off a bit now. Thank goodness.

I DO have problems with attacks on US citizens on US soil not engaged in active acts of war.

If I understand it correctly a "Tea Party Protest" is considered an act of racial violence against the gubment. Is it OK to drone them?

This was done more for the internal ramifications of shia, sunni and wahabbist islam, however Hussein fits into them.

It’s also one of those rare times when I concur with the administration. Killing islamists works for me too. Step it up.

IRS scandal, POTUS 'stand down' over Benghazi, State Dept's cover up with bogus 'video' lie, HHS strong-arming insurance companies, DHS hoarding the supply of ammo, DOJ's F&F and spying on reporters, and numerous leaks of scandals timed to coincide with each other..

It sure does appear that 0bama is trying to enlist Americans' support for hating America and it's government. I guess this is 'How to bring down America, 101'?

For what you get, it’s a pretty good buy.

Amazon only costs $79.00 for a full year. That breaks out to about $6.50 a month.

Quite a bit of the stuff is dated, but it keeps you busy. I can generally find some decent stuff on there.

Oops.. Forgot FBI bungling of Boston bomber case. Must give all agencies equal billing. LOL I suppose I could mention EPA targeting ‘registered Republicans’ and conducting shadow ops through ‘Richard Windsor’ personal email account as well.. And so on and so forth.

I’m sure you can find more than enough on Netflix and Hulu. I find a lot of stuff on YouTube surprisingly enough.

I’ve pulled down a number of movies off there in 1080p, and incorporated them into my iTunes.

Works pretty good.

I also get a lot of educational stuff from YouTube. If I like it, I’ll make a short of that too.

You can generally find a lot of History Channel, Discovery, and other stuff on there. Some of it is 1080p or 720p.

Some networks are also showing programs on line now. They can sometimes be copied too. It’s great.

I cut about $125 bucks off my cable bill. I cut about $150 off my utility bill. I cut about $125 off my telephone bill.

Pretty nice.
