Posted on 05/22/2013 3:03:21 PM PDT by lbryce
One day before President Obama is due to deliver a major speech on national security, his administration on Wednesday formally acknowledged that the United States had killed four American citizens in drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan.
In a letter to Congressional leaders obtained by The New York Times, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. disclosed that the administration had deliberately killed Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Muslim cleric who was killed in a drone strike in September 2011 in Yemen.
The American responsibility for Mr. Awlakis death has been widely reported, but the administration had until now refused to confirm or deny it.
The letter also said that the United States had killed three other Americans: Samir Khan, who was killed in the same strike; Mr. Awlakis son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who was also killed in Yemen; and Jude Mohammed, who was killed in a strike in Pakistan.
These individuals were not specifically targeted by the United States, Mr. Holder wrote.
While rumors of Mr. Mohammeds death had appeared in local news reports in Raleigh, N.C., where he lived, his death had not been confirmed by the United States government until Wednesday.
According to former acquaintances of Mr. Mohammed in North Carolina, he appears to have been killed in a November 2011 drone strike in South Waziristan, in Pakistans tribal area. Mr. Mohammeds wife, whom he had met and married in Pakistan, subsequently called his mother in North Carolina to tell her of his death, the friends say.

The political sinkhole has only just begun to crumble beneath the sorry as*es of those who have demonstrated the unmitigated egregious political arrogance that will soon have them a mere few inches from the drop down platform they so justifiably deserve.
It's not yet a Republican 'Christmas' but I am certain it's not very far off, with Hillary's chicken farm coming home to roost that will have schadenfreude re-defined in a wholly nearly unrecognizable way.
Well at least they didn’t get sent to Gitmo.
Wag the DOG to attempt to erase FAST&FURIOUS,
MANPADS4allTERRORISTS, IRSvswAMERICA, and ESPECIALLY
the benGhazi atrocity.
These guys are so scared they’re outing themselves just to avoid another scandal, and I don’t think it’s going to work.
I can see a scenario where a U. S. citizen could be included in a strike. If it’s a terrorist camp, why not?
As for Lefties, are they going to see it that way?.
I think the sheen is peeling off this road apple.
I hope you are right but I fear you are wrong.
Please allow me the indulgence to fantasize. :-)

American born to foreign parents, I bellieve they were here on a student visa but may be wrong. Anwar al Aulaqi/Awlaki is connected to the 9/11 attacks, the Toronto 18 assassinations plot, Ft Hood Massacre, Virginia Jihad, Boston Marathon bombers, Times Square Plot, the Christmas Day undybomber, the attempte assassination of the Saudi Intel chief, and a host of other plots.
I have no problems with the US targeting US citizens involved in hostile acts against the US on foreign soil.
I DO have problems with attacks on US citizens on US soil not engaged in active acts of war.
Works for me.

If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
There's no excuse for secrecy that I see. If there were national security considerations, possible, I'd like to know what changed today.
That said, irrespective of how one feels about killing vs capture, if you're on the wrong side in a combat zone which Pakistan and Yemen should be if they're not officially, the President doesn't even know who we're fighting, I've no problem with this.
ever see the program prison break?
I;ts all about convicts who were set up , get out of prison and while I;m watching it it reminded me of this Govt.
DoughtyOne:” These guys are so scared theyre outing themselves just to avoid another scandal, and I dont think its going to work.”
EXACTLY :That is what they are counting on now ~ low information voters’ forgetfulness
standard Obammunist modus operandi : deflect, divert, deny , delay , delay , obfiscate , delay , blame it on others , then get indignant and state “ ..at this point , ..what difference does it make ? “.
No. I’ve heard of it but I haven’t watched it.
It is long past time to end birthright citizenship.
RE: his administration on Wednesday formally acknowledged that the United States had killed four American citizens in drone strikes in Yemen and Pakistan.
One of them is Al-Awlaki.. We all know that. Who are the other three? Are they Al Qaeda?

saying they are not one and the same in terms of national security.
The Constitution guarantees due process, not judicial process,

You are precisely correct!
Who's to say what constitutes a terrorist act, especially with this administration?
We've already seen the IRS target conservatives and conservative groups. Whats to say they don't off someone on FR, while their in a foreign country on vacation, while the admin claims them as a terrorist (for speaking against Zero)?
Even if it is Obama, I am not manager to have any outrage. Four jihadis killed is a good thing - their American “citizenship” is irrelevant.
Are we seeing the administration trying to get in front of someone spilling the beans?
It’s almost the more absurd, the more they like it.
Some of these comments like Hillary’s would have gotten her canned in short order years ago. Now it’s just more noise.
Why didn't they wait until Friday? Fridays are even more fun these days.
Because there’s so much, they can’t wait for Friday for everything. LOL
"The Docu Dump Show." Premieres Friday on FOX.
LOL, is that for real?
No, but who knows? ;-)
Were NOT specifically targetted? Why the hell not? Target terrorists on the battlefield regardless of nationality.
You may very well be right given Obama’s unparalleled proclivity as ultimate pathological entity, employing his sinister, super-herculean powers to weasel his way out of harm’s way, the ultimate sociopath doing what he does best.
Every sociopath for themselves.
I agree. If you’re engaged in battle against us sianora
True that! :^)

The future of all of us under this dictatorship,,even though we won’t be specifically targeted.
I don't know and wasn't there but I've yet to hear anything out of Holder that was the truth.
Triangle man tied to unconfirmed 9/11 bomb threat [Raleigh-Durham NC]

A man accused of being part of a terrorist cell in the Triangle has been linked to what U.S. counter-terrorism officials have called a credible but unconfirmed al-Qaida threat to set off a car bomb on bridges or tunnels in New York City or Washington.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Jude Kenan Mohammad is among three al-Qaida leaders that investigators believe pose a particular threat because they have lived in the U.S.
Mohammad, 22, dropped out of Fuquay-Varina High School in 2006 and left the U.S. two years later to visit Pakistan, his father’s homeland.
A federal grand jury indicted him and seven other Triangle men in 2009 on charges that they conspired to carry out terrorist activities around the world. Two of the men have pleaded guilty, and the trial of four others is set for Sept. 19 in New Bern.
Federal authorities have never arrested Mohammad in the case, saying that they believe he has been in Pakistan since the indictment was issued.

How many people have gone to jail from all these scandals? How many are going to? How many cabinet members have resigned in disgrace? How many are going to?
None, none, none, and none. The Republicans in Congress aren't interested in putting criminals in jail and saving the country. All they see in these scandals is more election victories so they can get better committee assignments. Until top Democrats are being frog marched out of court in orange jumpsuits then it doesn't matter how many scandals come to light.
Treasury Designates Anwar Al-Aulaqi, Key Leader of Al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula

Treasury Designates Anwar Al-Aulaqi, Key Leader of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula
Treasury Targets al-Qa’ida Leader with Ties to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab
WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of the Treasury today designated Anwar al-Aulaqi, a key leader for al-Qa’ida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a Yemen-based terrorist group. Aulaqi was designated pursuant to Executive Order 13224 for supporting acts of terrorism and for acting for or on behalf of AQAP. Since its inception in January 2009, AQAP has claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks against Saudi, Korean, Yemeni and U.S. targets. Executive Order 13224 freezes any assets Aulaqi has under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. persons from engaging in any transactions with him.
“Anwar al-Aulaqi has proven that he is extraordinarily dangerous, committed to carrying out deadly attacks on Americans and others worldwide,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey. “He has involved himself in every aspect of the supply chain of terrorism — fundraising for terrorist groups, recruiting and training operatives, and planning and ordering attacks on innocents.”
Aulaqi has pledged an oath of loyalty to AQAP emir, Nasir al-Wahishi, and plays a major role in setting the strategic direction for AQAP. Aulaqi has also recruited individuals to join AQAP, facilitated training at camps in Yemen in support of acts of terrorism, and helped focus AQAP’s attention on planning attacks on U.S. interests.
Since late 2009, Aulaqi has taken on an increasingly operational role in the group, including preparing Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who attempted to detonate an explosive device aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day 2009, for his operation. In November 2009, while in Yemen, Abdulmutallab swore allegiance to the emir of AQAP and shortly thereafter received instructions from Aulaqi to detonate an explosive device aboard a U.S. airplane over U.S. airspace. After receiving this direction from Aulaqi, Abdulmutallab obtained the explosive device he used in the attempted Christmas Day attack.
Aulaqi was imprisoned in Yemen in 2006 on charges of kidnapping for ransom and being involved in an al-Qa’ida plot to kidnap a U.S. official but was released from jail in December 2007 and subsequently went into hiding in Yemen.
“Aulaqi has sought to encourage his supporters to provide money for terrorist causes. Those who provide material support to Aulaqi or AQAP violate sanctions and expose themselves to serious consequences,” continued Levey.
Today’s action supports the international effort to degrade AQAP’s capabilities to execute violent attacks and to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat its financial and support networks. The U.S. Government will continue to work with allies to identify and take action against persons acting for or on behalf of, or providing financial and other prohibited support to, Aulaqi and AQAP.
Individual: Anwar al-Aulaqi AKA: Anwar al-Awlaki AKA: Anwar al-Awlaqi AKA: Anwar Nasser Aulaqi AKA: Anwar Nasser Abdulla Aulaqi AKA: Anwar Nasswer Aulaqi DOB: April 21, 1971 Alternate DOB: April 22, 1971 POB: Las Cruces, New Mexico Citizenship: United States Citizenship: Yemen Location: Shabwah Governorate, Yemen
Why do I have the feeling that all of this is just a distraction?

“Abdulrahman al-Awlaki and Why You Shouldnt Stand Next to an Al Qaeda Terrorist”
February 6, 2013 By Daniel Greenfield
SNIPPET: “Abdulrahman al-Awlaki was not an innocent American teenager cruelly assassinated by the United States. He was the son of an Al Qaeda leader who happened to be standing next to another Al Qaeda leader who was the actual target of an infidel drone.
If you happen to be standing next to an Al Qaeda leader, then you might find yourself swimming downstream to the virgins, regardless of whether you have an American passport.
Should the United States ascertain that there is absolutely no one with an American passport in the vicinity of an Al Qaeda leader before the drone gets sent in?
Or perhaps we should only kill terrorists when there isnt anyone around them for miles? Or better yet, maybe we shouldnt kill terrorists at all. Maybe we should try to capture each and every one, regardless of how many men die doing it, and then take them back for a civilian trial, give them four ACLU lawyers and then release them a year later because of a lack of due process?
Thats what the left wants. Thats what the people turning Abdulrahman al-Awlaki into a martyr want.”
They didn’t kill four Americans, they exterminated
four Islamic terrorist/murderers.
I'm quite aware of the apathy by Republicans and the chances of political, criminal retribution ever coming to fruition. The term I used was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, playful, an attempt to be amusing and not taken expressed in any literal sense.
Thank you Manc. I’ll keep it in mind. You never know...
oh no problem , we’re just watching it on Netflix play9ng catch up but it did remind me of how corrupt Govt is and how people have their lives destroyed to protect their corruption
