Two key senators have reached a deal to expand background checks to firearms sales at gun shows and on the Internet, sources close to the negotiations said early Wednesday.
Sen. Pat Toomey, a conservative Pennsylvania Republican, plan to announce the deal Wednesday with West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, who holds an A rating from the National Rifle Association.
The two have been working on a compromise proposal that could draw Republican support for expanding background checks. On Tuesday evening, the two had an agreement in principle, and spent the night hammering out the final details.

Toomey used conservatives to get a seat in a Senate. He sold himself as the opposite of Arlen Specter, but he’s well on his way to becoming a clone. This isn’t the first issue on which he’s caved. Here’s a January 1, 2013 reference to his sell-out on the Obama tax increase:

I think the only appropriate response to these senators is that of Mr. Garrison, from the animated cartoon show, South Park.
“Go to HELL! Go to HELL and DIE!”
How do they define “family”. Will it include my brother-in-law whom I hunt and shoot with? How about my 2nd cousin down the dirt road that I hunt and shoot with? Or will it be the BIG CITY definition. Wife-Wife, Husband-Husband etc?
Leadership?
They practice Failure by Choice.
A national database on gun owners is what King Obamagabe has always wanted. Any republican or democrat that caves to this attack on the attack on the 2d Amendment is to be voted out of office. Gun confiscation is what it’s all about folks, plain and simple.
If King Barry wants this so bad, then King Barry should set an example for his subjects and submit to the same background check he wants for the rest of us. And he needs to release the results.
If he doesn’t pass, we need to take the nuclear football away from him.
Suddenly, gun shows will become 100% personal transactions.

I’ve bought my weapons from private parties for years and will continue to do so. The federal government will not have my name on any registry. They can kiss my ass.
You buy a gun online and they send it to an FFL near you.
You then go there, do the paperwork and pick it up.
I do not know why I bother to post anything, no one reads anything I have to say except for you.
The background check for my Mosin took 7 days.
Well, that’s just it-they’re “so-called” conservatives. Regarding FR, the definition of what is considered conservative (and which I agree with) is right there for anyone to see.
Regarding libertarians, yes, they’re good on smaller government. I part ways with them on social issues. For instance, I can never ever agree that anyone has a right to make a “choice” to murder their unborn child. One might as well say that people had a right to choose to be slaveholders.
I would not put it past the GOP-E to cave. Their track record for courage is nil. Ditto principle.
Exactly! Why just give them the means to tyrannise you?
BS. People need to be PISSED and to FRET and to get MAD, and to protest vigorously AND HOLD THEM ALL ACCOUNTABLE. Stamp Act circa 1772 MAD.
Toomey is from the most pro-gun state north of the Mason-Dixon Line. He does not need to do this for political reasons. He's just succumbing to the Beltway Flu early in his Senatorial career.
I went to a gun shop yesterday. Madhouse. This shop is perhaps the highest rated in the state. Reminded me of the Fenway T station after a Sox game. It was, literally, impossible to move, with a line out the door. They had advertised a Ruger rifle online and I managed to get the last one of the basic model. The staff couldn’t move for the jam and had to wait in corners behind the counter until someone else moved, like those little puzzles in which you move small plastic squares until you get one square from one point to another after moving all the others out of the way. It took 50 minutes to buy anything. Ammo was mostly sold-out. Used firearms were three times the price of a year ago. Obama is the best gun salesman in US history. It was an hour of getting your feet stepped on and being jostled about. The parking lot was overflowing into an adjacent one of a printing company. Will be interesting to see the public response if Obama gets his gun-grab through Congress.
p.s. And we can all put to rest the fantasy of the pro-gun, conservative Democrat, thanks to Manchin.
Toomey is a turn coat and needs recalled. Talks the conservative talk but dances with the libtards.
