New legislation is forcing gun manufacturing company Beretta to uproot and take their business elsewhere.
Established in 1526, Beretta holds the distinction of being the oldest active firearms manufacturer in the world. The U.S. factory is located in Accokeek, Maryland, and has been a staple of the local economy for years.
Beretta warned that stricter gun control laws would push the company outside of state lines, but that didnt stop Maryland legislators. Jeffrey Reh, a spokesman for Beretta who also serves as the President of Stoeger Industries under Beretta, announced that the company would begrudgingly uproot and take its business elsewhere. He said, We dont want to do this, were not willing to do this, but obviously this legislation has caused us a serious level of concern within our company.
He added that Beretta paid approximately $31 million in taxes, employs 400 people, and had invested $73 million in the business over the past several decades. Despite being such a prominent player in the local economy, Beretta was unable to prevent legislators from passing tighter gun control laws. Ironically, Beretta manufactures some firearms that are now banned in Maryland.
Republican state Delegate Anthony J. ODonnell lamented: Losing [Beretta] would be a big disappointment. Maryland has a reputation for having a horrible business climate, and this would be one more nail in the coffin.
Legislators had ample warning. Back in the 90s, when Maryland beefed up gun control laws, Beretta moved one of its warehouses a short drive away to Virginia.
Berettas bold move is regrettable but understandable. Reh told reporters, Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldnt buy it?
All of Berettas pleas fell on deaf ears. Even as Reh lamented Berettas looming departure and emphasized the companys centrality in the local economy during the hearing, Maryland legislators grilled Reh on self-defense.
One legislator stated: Other than target shooting, the only other reason [for a semi-automatic firearm] would be for self-defense [Why would you need a] rifle that accommodates 20 rounds semi-automatic for deer hunting? Its only very infrequently that someone commits a crime with an assault weapon why do you need one for self-defense?

Makes me feel better about the line of Berettas I own. Ruger, Colt. Ball’s in your court now.
Businesses can vote with their feet too and I’m glad to see them do it. Actions have consequences. Liberals need to learn this. I guiarantee that if Ohio turns into anything close to a liberal sanctuary, I’ll pop smoke and the next time I’m seen will be in Arizona... or maybe Texas....again.
Good for them!
Suck on that, O’Malice..how many fleeing companies does that make, now?
See ya, Maryland!
GOOD on Beretta!!!!
Southern Merryland deserves the loss.
Good for Baretta.
Remember the guy who used to have that name? He had a parrot I think. He was a short guy, kind of a wise cracker. I liked him.
Does anyone else remember him or know what's become of him. Google, here I come.
“Berettas bold move is regrettable but understandable”
No. It is commendable.
All across the United States, the Lefties are rushing to kill off the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Well, the legislators all have jobs - why should they care about the little people?
Looks like the gun grabbers want it both ways. If the guns are only very infrequently used by criminals, then how can they also be "the weapon of choice for criminals?"
They can't even keep their lies straight.
Is he bringing Fred, the Cockatoo with him?
Kudos to Beretta.
Personally, I try to do business only with companies that have the integrity displayed here by Beretta.
It is alos interesting to note that all the other arms manufacturers took careful notice of what happened to Smith & Wesson a few years ago when they pandered to the scumbag Democrats. Lessons learned.
start calculating dollars.
Good for them - all of us need to start voting with our feet...
Vote with your feet! Congratulations Beretta!
You are very welcome in Arizona!
He gunned his wife down while she was sitting in a parked car
The big names are now starting to jump ship.
I own an American made M-9. US Military requires that their guns are made in the US, so when Beretta won the Government contract in 1985 or so, they had to build a manufacturing plant in the US.
I’m in California and I’m keeping the pair of 15 round mags that came with it. They are probably worth their weight in Gold.
THANK YOU! I had forgotten the Cockatoo's name.
I HOPE he is. That bird stole the show.
He did that--but I can't remember it being quite that simple. Maybe I'm wrong.
Good for Beretta. Now they need to stop doing business with Blue States.
You don’t keep a business running for close to 500 years by being stupid. Good for them.
Baretta - TV Show
Beretta - Firearm
I’ll be buying some.
When they pull out... I'll listen.
They have been beating rocks into firearms since before my family could write.
And now they have 400 people out of work, on top of the family members that were supported by that company. Wonder what manufacturing company is going to come rushing right in to fill the void. Let me think.
They are so damn dumb.
And I’m thinking that the crime rate in Baltimore is gonna drop like a stone within the next week or two.
You can take that to the bank!
Is this official? Seems like it’s a resignation of an eventuality but I don’t see any official statement from Beretta confirming that they’re absolutely leaving.
I hope they come to Arizona.
Get the h*** out.

It’s for that unlikely circumstance that I need God Powers, in terms of Ammo, to dispatch any miscreant that would threaten me or my loved ones.
I have been robbed at my Mom’s Quickstop twice and surrounded by Aholes more than I can remember who thought they were going to extort monies from me because they perceive I have money.
So a hardy FU. I had the means to defend myself on several occassions and now order my life based on those experiences.
I’ve grown accustomed to losers trying to take advantage of men and they have learned I’m a nice guy...But....
You have never been in danger of being shot.
You have never had a knife stuck to your ribs.
You know nothing about nothing..
I was going to purchase another Kimber .45 but, Beretta has made a stand.
I will purchase their product.
Last December I bought a Beretta 8045 through Widener’s, new, two mags, under five hundred bucks. That is one of the best shooting lowest recoil .45 ACP pistols I’ve ever shot. I like it so much I paid $40 a piece for two extra mags.
The pistol has only one negative, the decocker/safety is on the slide not the frame.
I dont know about him, but I would prefer to outgun the guy who tries to break in. I remember a movie where Alan Lad? plays Jim Bowie. The other guy pulls a knife, and then Bowie pull out HIS knife, which is like a short Roman sword!
I love Arizona and I’d crawl over broken glass to vote for Jan Brewer.
My son has a Kimber 45. It’s pretty sweet. But yeah, if you already have one give Beretta some of your business. My brother was over my house last week and had on a nice polo shirt with a Beretta logo over the pocket. Ironic.
more good news would be colt and ruger leaving connecticut.
even more good news would be the ammo people telling dhs to shove their billion round order up their collective communist asses.
I’m retired EOD and made the trip down 210 to Indian Head to DC many time over my career.... Always liked the fact the factory was there as some of the spouses worked there and were able to purchase a firearm each year at cost. My Girl Friday has quite the collection of some really nice berettas . The guy that runs or did run Al Mar knives was the chief cook and bottle washer at Beretta back then. I want to say Gary Fadden ??
All gun, ammunition and related products manufacturers should leave these socialist states. Take their business and its effects on community fiscal health where it’s appreciated by all .
Maryland’s polidiots have struck again !
Then why do police need ‘assault weapons’? If they need them for self defense from the ‘bad guys’, where are they confronting these ‘bad guys’? In secure areas away from the public or in amongst the public? Who is more likely to be a victim of the ‘assault weapons’ of the ‘bad guys’, the police or the general public? If the police are not legally obligated to protect citizens(USSC Warren vs DC 1981)shouldn’t citizens have the same self defense capability as the police since the ‘bad guys’ are amongst us and not ‘secured’ away?? The powers that be don’t give a damn about your ‘security’. It is about control and the power that comes from it. It is human nature. It is the history of mankind.
When the government is the criminal then the people need all the strength they can muster to resist crime.
Come to Texas!
He did the crime, but didnt do the time.
Some of us remember when he was Little Beaver. Robert Blake was acquitted of murdering his wife........
Haven't heard anything of him since then..
Its only very infrequently that someone commits a crime with an assault weapon, why do you need one for self-defense?
Talk about an idiot. What kind of people elected this ........... person?
I’ll believe it when I see moving vans crossing the border.
I live here. The state is filled with low information voters and gummint workers, often the same ones.
