A license plate gives police a whole lot of information about you, and law enforcement is supposed to protect those details. However, one local sheriff admits he gave a driver's name and address away, and the reason he did it is downright bizarre.

The sheriff said that, at the time, he had probable cause to run Barnes' tag, because he was investigating it as a possible crime.Hey there, Mr. Sheriff. Could you please provide the Penal Code section that you thought had been violated? (I didn't think so.)
If this is a violation of the law (which I would think it is) then the sheriff should be arrested and charged.
Sheriff is supposed to enforce the law, not patrol the potty of a private business
The police probably shouldn’t have looked up the license plate. However, it is a pet peeve of mine that businesses that maintain restrooms for their customers get taken advantage of by people who stop but do not purchase anything. My husband and I travel often by car and see this often especially at McDonalds. In my opinion it is just dishonest and rude. If one doesn’t want to purchase something, there are roadside travel stops. It is the old “something for nothing” attitude. It is just too prevalent today.
The story all came about when a woman stopped to use a restaurant’s restroom and then left without buying anything.
A few days later, the woman checked her mail to find a bill from that restaurant, asking her to pay for using their restroom. And it turns out the sheriff, himself, helped the restaurant’s owners track her down.
“I just feel like I’ve been violated,” Patricia Barnes said.
Barnes received a handwritten letter that asked for $5 because she used the restroom at The Flood Zone in Houston County.
I sometimes stop and use the restroom at McDonalds, if I need to, because I am a customer of McDonalds.
I may not buy anything on that particular instance, but I have done business with them before and will do business with them again.
Good luck in getting payment for a restroom charge. It’s probably not legal to begin with, and definitely unenforceible
If I owned a business, I would not mind at all if travelers stopped and used the restrooms. If I ever get the urge and am shopping at a nearby town, I always use Lowe’s because they are the cleanest.
I also do a lot of shopping there tho not necessarily at the same time I visit their bathrooms
I buy a McDouble & a Sml Fries = $2 + Tx. I time my potty stops for a McD and it works out well.
What small, small villiage idiot man. Same with the resturant owner. People are sickening these days.
Buccee’s has people on payroll working 24/7 cleaning the restrooms.
Using a restroom is dishonest?
The Sheriff had no business in giving that information to any citizen, period.
I try to avoid McDonalds as it is a bit of hit and miss with them. Sometimes clean, often not. If I am in a small town which is the county seat, I often use theirs in the Courthouse. Almost always spotless.
If not that then the city hall or other government buildings.
I once went on the courthouse.
I dunno... you might change your mind! LOL
Hubby was returning to our business one day and got behind someone driving REALLY fast. As he was nearing the shop, he noticed that they had pulled into our parking lot.
According to the office manager, the guy came rushing in the door (nearly knocking over a customer) and hurried into the bathroom, which is directly off the customer lobby/office. After that, there passed several minutes of loud, strange noises from the bathroom and some awkward silence between the manager and the customer. To quote the manager, “It sounded like the bathroom scene in ‘Dreamcatcher’ was being played out in there!”
Eventually, the guy came out (without flushing), went directly to his car without saying a word and drove off. The smell would have stripped paint! His “thank you for letting me use your bathroom” was diarrhea all over the toilet and floor.
I used to buy a cup of coffee at McD if I needed to use the bathroom. I might still if the line isn’t too long. The problem is when the street people end up using the restrooms ALL the time, and/or trashing them. We were at a hamburger joint in the city and the manager had to buzz you in to the one restroom. (The other one had been trashed).
As my elderly mom left the restroom, a homeless guy sprinted in behind her almost knocking her over to catch the closing door.
Yes definitely! You'd think NBC would hire people how know something about English grammar to write their headlines. Apparently NBC doesn't know about subject verb agreement. "Women" is the plural of "woman." "Receives" is the third person singular present tense conjugation of the verb "to receive."
