Former Sen. Scott Brown said Friday he would not run in a special Senate election in Massachusetts, dealing a setback to Republican hopes of winning the seat being vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry.
Brown, who electrified his party with an upset win in a 2010 special election but lost his re-election bid in November, ended weeks of intense speculation about his future with a written statement announcing his decision.
GOP officials in Washington and Massachusetts widely considered Brown the strongest possible Republican candidate in a state that traditionally favors Democrats.
With Brown out of the running, potential Republican candidates include former Gov. William Weld, former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, state Rep. Daniel Winslow and former state Sen. Richard Tisei.

Not an inspiring bunch.
That’s about the nicest thing that can be said about them.
too bad....he was a good candidate and a good man...of course, not PURE and HOLY like some freepers prefer...
He would be rotting conservatism from the inside. Just like McCain, Lugar, Collins, Snowe, HAGEL. We would do just as well voting for someone with the last name Stalin, Mao or Castro. They are who they are and we need to see them for that. They side often with the progressives (evolution instead of revolution towards communism). But voting for them is voting for the ultimate dream of communism for the “elites” who will control us for our (their) own good.
He would have been great if he’d actually TRIED to win! He closed his office in Worcester, the second largest city in MA a couple of days BEFORE the election. He seemed to be fixated on Fauxcahontas’s heritage, and spent more time on that than on her political ideas.
He wouldn’t have closed the Worcester office if polls hadn’t shown him being beaten there well beyond any margin of error. In a year when Obama was on the ballot in MA, it’s not likely there could have been any other outcome, no matter who the candidate was.
I’ve not found any difference at all between Warren and Obama philosophically, and both seem to fit MA just fine.
Brown is a RINO and a LOSER. Let’s try a GENUINE conservative for once and take the seat!
Who cares? Its not like he ever votes with the republicans.
He was voted into power due to the Tea Party. His sole job was to be “number 41” to rid Obamacare.
Scott Brown then threw the Tea Party under the bus. Who’s the ungrateful one here? Wanna try again with your fellatio worship of this clown?
Too bad Curt Schilling’s business went under. He would have been an interesting candidate. However Massachusetts is beyond redemption.
If a ‘good’ man (Scott Brown) is proud of his support for the biggest killer of unborn babies on the planet, planned parenthood, what does it take to be a ‘bad’ man in your mind?
To hell with pure and holy! I’d like constant and consistent and on the right side.
Let the Lt. Gov run. With the first name “Kerry” half of the idiot liberals will think they’re voting for John Kerry.
Back in 1966 a Jim Johnson ran for governor of Arkansas. I heard a man ask another man who he was going to vote for and he said “Johnson. He made a good president so I’m sure he’ll make a good governor.
Are you kidding? Here is a man who lied from the beginning. None of us even knew he was married until he was elected and that was to cover up his wife being liberal. After his election win; he did everything he could to go against what he said he stood for.
>> potential Republican candidates include former Gov. William Weld, former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, state Rep. Daniel Winslow and former state Sen. Richard Tisei. <<
Well, looking at the lineup of potential GOP candidates, it sounds like the alternatives to Brown are far WORSE and bigger RINOs than him. I don't see any "genuine conservatives" in sight (don't know enough about Daniel Winslow though)
“None of us knew he was married “ ?? What are you talking about, She was a long time TV anchor on Boston TV,And a Babe. She traveled every where during the campaign with him along with his daughters.
gr8 . maybe we will get an American conservative!!
Yeah, sure - get real. A real conservative from MA? It will never happen, but people can dream if they want. If the people of that commie state elected the faux princess, just what in the world makes you think they’d ever elect a conservative? Do the names Ted Kennedy, Barney Franks, or John Kerry ring a bell?
Seriously, are there any true conservatives in that state to even run? I seriously doubt it.
Ditto - not married??
Didn’t we all see pictures of the family - -
Rumor is S. Brown will run for Govenor - probably not news to many. . .
