Unconfirmed reports of McAfee laying off 2000 workers (TX)

Posted on 11/13/2012 8:15:24 PM PST by praytell

I umpire for a softball association in North Texas and I happened to be umpiring a game in which a sponsored team with all employees from McAfee were playing. I happened to be talking to one of the players who mentioned that he was looking for new work.

I said " You work for Mcafee right?"

His reply: "Negative. They just laid off close to 2000 workers and most of my team were part of the layoffs."

I seemed partially skeptical due to the fact that news similar to this is popping up everday on layoffs and I figured 2000 workers was a huge pill. Most of the reports we are hearing are a few hundred or under a hundred, not 2000.

I am asking for research and see if we have any freepers with better know-how knowledge to confirm this.

Well, this might be to do with the fact that the founder of McAfee is in Belize wanted for murder.

(I have a theory he might have murdered the guy on the commercial for PCMatic.com. Anyone noticed he’s missing from those commercials now?)

There was an article on October 8 saying that Intel (which now owns McAfee) plans to lay off a “small percentage.” No figures given.

I wonder if the recent stories describing McAfee as a drug-raddled murderer might have a further negative impact on the company? It can’t be very good for their image, I wouldn’t think.

So we are not just talking 2000. We are talking over 3 times that much.

.
Embelish much?

He is not wanted for murder, he has been called “a person of interest.”

Don’t expect you to grasp the difference.

It’s hard to make money on a product that Microsoft does better and gives away for free.

Channelnomics:

McAfee Joins Chorus of Tech Layoffs
October 9th, 2012 | Author: Larry Walsh

McAfee, a subsidiary of Intel, is preparing to lay off a small number of employees in what many analysts are already calling a sign the ripple effect of slowing PC sales. It may be also a sign of tech vendors preparing for a more general economic slowdown expected at the end of the year.

Small number??

7100 employees is not a fart in the wind. Thats pretty damn substantial in my book.

Good Lord, and the liberals refuse to have a clue.

They have 7100 employees, they say they are laying off a small percentage of the 7100, not all of them.

There are two MS prodcuts. One is aimed at questionable web sites. It is named, “Windows Defender”.

The other is an MS anti-virus product named, “Microsoft Security Eseentials”. Google search or Bing search will point you to both of them.

Not that 2000 is a small percentage of 7100, but the only place that has that 2000 number is this here thread.

Two dozen, two thousand can sound similar in the middle of a noisy baseball game.

Or maybe it really is 2000, and small is in the eye of the beholder...
