I just returned from my local poll in Virginia. In all my years here (19), this turnout was largest BY FAR. The longest line I ever remember was around 75 people. . .today, it was at least 500 and over an hour wait. I pray to God that this bodes well for Romney. Today, we will discover whether or not the adage "Its the economy, stupid" has been replaced with a new one "It's the HANDOUT, stupid!"
Good report, McBuff. Thanks.
Bump.
Same here in teensy weensy Norvell Michigan. Serious turnout at both precincts.
is your county blue red or purple?
Did they look like Republicans (cheery, optimistic, well-groomed) or Democrats (silent, sullen, slovenly dressed)?
Huge turnout bad news for incumbants.
Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1981 and lived across the street from it. Where are you?
Went Blue for Obama in 08 (Prince William County)...went purple in 2010..so trending in the right direction.
A Failed Communist.
If America votes for 0bama, then I secede and those other people can have him as their president.
Lots of Carhartts and coveralls around here.
It’s like that here in rural central Virginia. I’m going out a bit later to vote, but my husband went earlier. Usually we can just walk right up to the voting machine, or at the most we might have to wait for one or two people to finish. Today, husband said the place was packed, with a line wrapped around the building.
Believe me, that’s a first, and an astonishing one.
Demographics of Prince William County:

But much of Northern Virginia is made up of government workers. Some of these might be military. What’s your sense as to the type of voters, pro-Obama or pro-Romney?
Woodbridge Va. is not Bork Obunga territory.
CNBC was on the TV this morning in the gym...they were interviewing some guy named Larry (not Kudlow)...i could not hear the volume but read the CC....
i don’t know if Larry is a pollster, economist, prognosticator...
anyway they were grilling this guy as he said through September that obozo would win the election than in October changed it to Romney...he basically said Romney would win because of voter enthusiasm in the GOP, the polls were rigged with high rat samples, the rats would not get the turnout they did in 2008- same stuff we’ve been saying at Freep for three months....
now here’s the important part- he was in Fairfax, Virginia being interviewed remotely and they start talking about Virginia...this and that, etc...finally this Larry says to the hosts in the CNBC studios “i know you can see that long line of voters behind me- that does not bode well for the president”...
Not to change the subject, but 99.9% of ALL Americans are slovenly dressed pigs. Cut offs, flip flops, piercings, tats, fat guts, billboard graphic t-shirts like 12 year olds, bizarre facial hair, ball caps on backwards, etc.
Heard on the teevee: “The most dangerous place to be today is between a Republican voter and a polling booth.”
WMAL said 1000 turn out this morning.
I just figure those long lines and hours of waiting are the same people that were willing to wait 4 hours for a chicken sandwich :)
Actually, silent, sullen and slovenly dressed. .pretty much describes me! I have to admit, though. . I was worried that I was seeing more "takers" then "makers" there. . .but that's just me. . .remember I am silent and sullen normally. . .it's my morbid, pessimistic, Irish nature. Please God give us a victory today!!
Was it Larry Sabato?
If Oboma wins, expect massive lay offs, people hoarding food and building shelters, and no buying of goods. People will work on paying off their debts. We'll see a lot more bartering.
If Romney wins, the working class will relax. They'll go back to hiring and buying. Those storing food will slow down. Preppers will have more time to work on the little things they may have missed during their haste.
Either the nation collapses under the weight of social programs, or those on social programs will be asked to start earning their own keep. This is the choice the voters have to make today.
Sounds like me, sans the tats and piercings, of course (and then again I couldn't grow bizarre facial hair, even if I tried).
Remember, Congress long ago learned how to keep the jobs at home, in their districts.
Your friends and neighbors ~ not ours ~ and I live here.
I went to Woodbridge HS for my Freshman year in 76, used to hang out in Lake Ridge and remember ice skating on the Occoquan whenever we got the chance.
I don’t know that you can go with that assessment early in the a.m. down there. Lot of folks in Woodbridge who are up that early in the a.m. are facing a very long commute and probably are on the road by 0600 or earlier. If they are dressed “slovely” it probably means they work outside and are wearing layers because it was cold (by this area’s standards) this morning.
Starting out later in order to vote might be a good sign.
Well, I posit that all along Route 1 down there, from Woodbridge and south all the way up to Mount Vernon and Alexandria, you can pretty much tell the politics by the skin color. And since it’s not cool to mention skin color, we can’t really say what’s going on in Woodbridge! I’d say only McBuff knows, and he’s staying silent and slovenly about it. But if Romney wins, when I get back to the USA, the first round is on me at Tim’s Rivershore!

The line at the Fairfax Government Center was crazy long at 7:15 this am. It took my daughter and I 3 1/2 hours to finish voting. Several workers there said it’s not normally like that on election day.
Broken glass Republicans.
Woodbridge went Obunga in 08. . .went purple in 10 and I pray to God, full red today!!
no...
is Fairfax a GOP area??
Broken glass Republicans.
I live in Dale City, voted this AM. HUGE turnout.
Spent WAY too much money at Tim's this year. :-)
Strong turnout in Franklin County, VA as well - a Republican stronghold.
VA Ping!
If you want on/off the VA Ping List, please freepmail me.
If you see posts of interest to Virginians, please ping me.
Thanks!
I’ve only lived here about a year. Muawiyah.... your input?
Rich suburb of DC.
I suspect it’s all government-dependant vampires of a different social class.
I worked a polling place for Corey Stewart when he ran for re-election as Supe Chair...my son ran his campaign.
I recall PWC had lots of illegals then so a big prob...
What do you think of Stewart?
Uh, excuse me. I live there. And, no, I’m not.
I'll see you there!!
Fairfax County is as blue as it gets. Suburb of DC, all government workers. What there is of the private sector, is government-dependent private sector.
Is that a coal town?
Hey... I am wearing a Carhartt belt today... and I voted for Romney!
LLS
I’ll say it...
That area is full of Mexicans...legal and illegal.
The Republican party quickly formed and began winning a few elections here and there.
Today the Republican party continues to win but they do not dominate the county.
We’ve already decided in our family that if Romney wins we are going to church and getting down on our knees and thanking God for one last chance. We may be hung over from partying for a couple days in celebration but I think God will understand. Go R/R!
We had a long line here in Gulf Shores, Alabama also. The line went out the door across the parking lot, and down the side walk. Although once I got in line it didn’t take as long as I thought it would. What took my time was reading all the amendments we are voting on here in Alabama.
Thanks for the new tagline :)
