Secret recordings made by British intelligence during the Second World War have revealed for the first time the horrific atrocities carried out by everyday German soldiers.
For years the blame for horrific war crimes, rape and genocide were laid at the hands of the SS and Hitler's right hand men but a new book details how widespread the barbarity went.
Transcripts taken from hidden microphones on prisoners of war have been collated for the disturbing book Soldaten: On Fighting, Killing and Dying: The Secret Second World War Tapes of German POWs.
Revelations: The new book reveals how soldiers like this one callously murdered the innocent and then joked about it with fellow soldiers

We didn’t call them the Hun JUST for propaganda.
Hitler, like Obama, suffered from NPD. We see from history what the end result will be like if Obama is reelected.
Antony Brevard and max hastings in their two recent histories of WW2 put the myth of Wehrmacht innocence in the grave. The responsibility went from the lowest landser to the highest divisional and army commanders. One thing is true. beyond the Holocaust, if you were alive and living between the Oder and the Urals from 1941-45 you were in Hell.
I go through Germany a lot on business and the attitudes are still there. Especially in the Deutsche Polizei, who still snigger and sneer at any non-Germans.
Not all of Germany is like that but it's still a strong undercurrent, buttressed by their economic resurgence. In the 70's, those attitudes were under tight wraps.
It's a place that really might just deserve a permanent foreign military presence.
the second looks like SS and the third is definitely SS
the forth are SS officers
in the fifth one the guy looking at the camera again has an odd uniform and helmet but those in the background are most definitely SS
the sixth, no way to tell
According to this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_American
50 million Americans are of German ancestry. When we reach a point where hyper inflation or other monetary calamity destroys everything we’ve worked for, watch out.
The hat on the one in the middle doesn't even look German.
“It’s a place that really might just deserve a permanent foreign military presence.”
People often don’t get that one reason we stuck around after the war was to stop our now-allies from doing it again. Their records prior to and during WW2 was nothing to be proud of.

Maybe you just need to brush up on your 20th century history. Stalin starved 9 million Ukrainians to death for the "crime" of being more competent and therefore more prosperous than their neighbors. When the census takers reported the population drop, he had them shot.
No Germans were involved.
Mao's "Great Leap Forward" had farmers cooking worthless poor-quality steel in "blast furnaces" built in holes in the ground, instead of tending their crops. The resulting famine killed perhaps 50 million people.
No Germans were involved.
I would, if I were you, be far more careful to "watch out" for the 40% or so of your fellow citizens who think they're entitled to steal from the rest of us instead of working, irrespective of their ethnic heritage.
they could be Italian or local troops etc. as many of the local troops like the Chetniks were more than happy to slaughter their neighbors given the chance when the time came
This just in:
War is a bad business where very bad things happen, especially when civilians are thrown into the mix.
Read about what Stalin did to the Ukrainians...and you will understand why!
I’m about 2/3rds of the way through Antony Brevard’s book. Fascinating, disturbing, and well written.
This is an email, minus the pictures, I received two days ago. The pictures are available at http://www.valorstudios.com/Franz-Stigler-Charlie-Brown.htm Verification that this is a true story is also available there.
Look carefully at the B-17 and note how shot up it is - one engine dead, tail, horizontal stabilizer and nose shot up. It was ready to fall out of the sky. (This is a painting done by an artist from the description of both pilots many years later.) Then realize that there is a German ME-109 fighter flying next to it. Now read the story below. I think you’ll be surprised...
Charlie Brown was a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot with the 379th Bomber Group at Kimbolton , England . His B-17 was called ‘Ye Old Pub’ and was in a terrible state, having been hit by flak and fighters. The compass was damaged and they were flying deeper over enemy territory instead of heading home to Kimbolton.
After flying the B-17 over an enemy airfield, a German pilot named Franz Steigler was ordered to take off and shoot down the B-17. When he got near the B-17, he could not believe his eyes. In his words, he ‘had never seen a plane in such a bad state’... The tail and rear section was severely damaged, and the tail gunner wounded. The top gunner was all over the top of the fuselage. The nose was smashed and there were holes everywhere.
Despite having ammunition, Franz flew to the side of the B-17 and looked at Charlie Brown, the pilot.
Brown was scared and struggling to control his damaged and blood-stained plane.

Aware that they had no idea where they were going, Franz waved at Charlie to turn 180 degrees. Franz escorted and guided the stricken plane to, and slightly over, the North Sea towards England .. He then saluted Charlie Brown and turned away, back to Europe ...
When Franz landed he told the CO that the plane had been shot down over the sea, and never told the truth to anybody. Charlie Brown and the remains of his crew told all at their briefing, but were ordered never to talk about it.
More than 40 years later, Charlie Brown wanted to find the Luftwaffe pilot who saved the crew. After years of research, Franz was found. He had never talked about the incident, not even at post-war reunions.
They met in the USA at a 379th Bomber Group reunion, together with 25 people who were alive - all because Franz never fired his guns that day.

When asked why he didn’t shoot them down, Stigler later said, “I didn’t have the heart to finish those brave men. I flew beside them for a long time. They were trying desperately to get home and I was going to let them do that. I could not have shot at them. It would have been the same as shooting at a man in a parachute.”
Both men died in 2008.
This is a true story..
This was back in the days when there was some kind of honour in being a warrior. They proudly wore uniforms, and they didn’t hide behind women and children, nor did they plant bombs amidst innocent crowds.
(No, I am not of German heritage)
I too am of German descent. There is nothing special about the genetic makeup of Germans vs. Russians, Poles, etc. For all intents and purposes, we are the same. All I’m saying is, if the same conditions existed in the US as existed in Germany post WWI and pre WWII, you would probably get a similar result. I can see us heading into the same situation the Germans faced, when a loaf of bread cost a wheel barrow of money in the morning and two wheel barrows of money in the afternoon. When that happens, desperate people will do desperate things.
This is interesting. More news of carnage from World War II. Of course there was plenty of that going on all over. It does add to the overall picture. Of course, there is plenty of killing going on today.
