Gingrich jumps to front of Republican pack

White House hopeful Newt Gingrich, the former US House speaker whose campaign to win the Republican nomination appeared all but over just weeks ago, has surged toward the front of the pack. His campaign's revival follows the rise and fall of leading rivals, most recently former Godfather's Pizza chief executive Herman Cain who is battling a sexual harassment scandal and stumbled badly Monday in responding to a question on Libya.

The Republican Party has struggled to find the right alternative to frontrunner Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor seen by many as the most formidable challenger to President Barack Obama in the November 2012 election but who has been unable to gain support of the party's conservative base.

While congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Texas Governor Rick Perry, two conservative party rivals, shot to the top of the heap as soon as they entered the race only to see their campaigns fizzle, Gingrich has trended in the opposite direction.

His detailed ideas to overcome such US hurdles as budget deficits coupled with his recent string of strong debate performances has helped reignite the campaign, political operatives said.

Gingrich took the lead in a Public Policy Polling survey released Monday with 28 percent support, compared with 25 percent for Cain and 18 for Romney.

The RINO plan for Romney domination continues apace. Promote then destroy Cain. Promote and soon destroy Newt (an easy task given his horrific record). Once Newt is neutered, we will hear yet another wave of “Mitt is inevitable” screeds from the TV and print press and RINO pundits on Fox.(p>

Gingrich would make an excellent vice president put in charge of implementing the agenda of president Cain.

only in an upside down world is Mitt Romney consistently called a front runner when he has never actually been the leading candidate for more than a day or two at a time as other candidates move past him. A guy who has been running for 6 years is sitting at 18% in third place here, and this despite doing relatively well in all the debates and not making any massive missteps...at least none that got traction.

There is no such thing as “ready for prime time”.

Cain has one thing that Newt, Perry or Rinommy, and that is the ability to go on offense, excite a room, and project confidence from more than just having a “smart” answer.

That is 99% of the race for the White House. Can Newt fulfill any of those criteria?

So far not one of his supporters can demonstrate how he’s done any of that.

When the first missile hits from the MSM, is Newt going to do more than give some AM talk radio style lament about press bias?

Can he give speeches that rhetorically soar and isn’t just thick with policy?

There are 2 reasons he’s doing so well:

1. People WANT to see him shred Obama in the debates
2. He’s the ONLY one with the wit, will and gravitas to take on the media and WIN

He’s got my vote.

Shouldn't it read The Republican Party has struggled to find the right alternative to former frontrunner Mitt Romney?

How long has it been since he held any credible lead?

At a time when we are facing financial armageddon how can people be so concerned about the man being married several times?

Gingrich-Bachman all the way!

It would be UNSTOPPABLE!
