September 27, 1979 - Newt was one of 30 Republicans who voted to create the Department of Education under President Carter. Why would any Republican who believes in a limited federal government vote to create a national Department of Education? If only Newt and 7 other Republicans had voted NO, perhaps we wouldn't have a Department of Education?
