CNN politics ^ | 9/26/11 | cnn political unit

According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three percent and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one percent.

He did say he wasn’t going to run and did finish the last legislative session/special session before deciding.

His Wife is actually the one who convinced him to run saying, “it’s time to get out of your comfort zone”

TX Governor Rick Perry scolded me and called me heartless. Obama has scolded me for years too. I’ve had enough scolding by politicians. If Texans appreciate being scolded by their Governor that’s your business. It is not what I want or need from a politician. Why can’t you understand and accept that concept?

Screw anyone that would support a strategy or candidate that would leave us with Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee or Barrack Obama as President.

What are the principles?

Then this is a fluke?

This was in answer to a question at a Republican debate during the election:

"What that means is that I've got a lot of faith in the Lord," Perry said. "I hope he's going to let me live for four years, and if he does, I will serve out my governorship."

I don’t recall where I mentioned other states nor do I see how that is germane to the TX legislation.

I’m not arguing about the veto proof majority in the legislature. Perry could have “fallen on his sword” and vetoed this (to be subsequently overridden) if he’s as conservative as many say. Standing on principle is a recognized trait among many conservatives.

The only point I’m arguing is the “no cost to taxpayers” comments that get tossed around FR so cavalierly.

Start at page 20 (of 50) of the document to see where the “revenue” for TX education comes from. See Exhibit 9 for a breakdown of where the funding comes from. Hint; it’s not just sales taxes. In fact, “general and local revenue” only account for about 6.4% of the funding. Also note the federal funding piece of that pie exceeds those two categories combined.

http://c0032622.cdn2.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/FASTp1execSummary.pdf

Look, Texas got what it wanted, fine, the electoral system worked. No problem. But to say that there is no cost to the taxpayers of either Texas or to the rest of the nation is disingenous.

Nobody thinks the FL straw poll was a fluke.

So, you expect Herman Cain to win Florida and/or be the nominee? That is the only way it couldn't be a fluke.

Leading in national polls and in Iowa are far more significant indicators at this point than a straw poll of state not voting until well after the primary process has begun.

That ALL laws should be followed. Their parents came here illegally. Laws make everyone equal. It’s unfortunate their parents broke the law, but it IS true that the sins of the father are visited on the children:

Exodus 34:6-7: “Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

If during my childhood my father was driving drunk, killed someone and went to jail it certainly wouldn’t be my fault but it would definitely affect me and perhaps even my children. My mother’s parents were alcoholics and so was she. My sister and I (who both found God as adults) decided not to have it in our house.

Further, the children are Mexican or whatever citizens and can apply for scholarships in their own country to go to school in the United States.

That's true. So, what difference does it make if they are paying in-state or out-of-state tuition rates? Regardless of the rate, it isn't costing the taxpayers. Universities and colleges are still making a profit and likely are getting a boost in enrollment.

It's pretty silly for anyone to claim illegals are coming here so their children can get a discount on what is still a very expensive education.

Vetoing the legislation merely would have alienated voters and Hispanics without doing anything to slow illegal immigration.

Warning, heresy to follow, do not read if you cannot contain your anger or the desire to respond with invective and argumentum ad hominem:

As it has been from the beginning, it's Romney's to lose. Barring any horrible blunders, which is not his campaign style, Romney will win in New Hampshire, and despite losses in southern states, will amass the delegates he needs in the larger, delegate rich (mostly) coastal states to be the nominee. He need only remain a business-saavy, growth-focused, presidential-sounding alternative to Obama, to be acceptable in the long run. Unless a major candidate gets in (namely Christie), which is everyday even more highly unlikely; the die is cast. For those who feel as I do, we have the benefit of ignoring the endless presidential speculation threads, especially the absurd ones about Palin's entry, but I decided to chime in today for amusement sake. I know you'll be grateful. There simply aren't enough conservatives under the Republican banner to force through a Bachmann or a Cain, (who would lose in the general anyway) and Perry (George W. Bush 2.0) is already proving to be an inadequate vessel to contain all those hopes that propelled him into the top spot. Romney isn't popular because he isn't real conservative, and the primary polls reflect it, but in the end, he'll be seen as safe and therefor electable, and that will carry the day.

” People need to get real on this issue. “

People like Sheriff Joe Arpaio ??

Here’s the audio of Sheriff Arpaio speaking about Governor Perry and the Texas Dream Act of 2001 “

http://www.texastribune.org/texas-people/rick-perry/sheriff-arpaio-on-perry-and-the-dream-act/

” But, that’s not going to stop me from endorsing him , if I endorse him.
You think the Dream Act is going to stop me ! ?
I don’t care either way.
You gotta look at the big picture.
What type of president he will make.
Not just because he’s for or against the Dream Act. “

Why is McCain considered a RINO? Because he was also soft on illegals and insulted those who disagreed with him. Otherwise, he was pretty conservative.

McCain was "otherwise pretty conservative"?

I haven't heard anybody admit to that on FR since November 2008.

So, besides allegedly "being soft" on illegals and the Gardasil issue (don't mention the parental opt-out provision) isn't Perry also "pretty conservative"? Even Sarah Palin called him a "true conservative".

Do you realize how little it takes for anybody to be labeled a "RINO" on FR?

By FR standards, 80% of the entire population of the U.S. qualifies as either "RINO" or "To the Left of RINO".

NINETY EIGHT PERCENT of the Texas State Legislature in very conservative Texas voted for the so-called Dream Act for reasons having to do with young adults that grew up in Texas "through no fault of their own" rather than for reasons having to do with "what their parents did."

A poorly prepared and flustered Perry blurted out "heartless" to a fellow debater on stage (not to ari-freedom) and then, like emotional schoolgirls, everybody starts crying "Perry insulted me!!!"

That is why I say that Perry was cocky and lazy. He should have expected that attack from Romney and he should have practiced a response. Instead, Perry was blind-sided, got flustered and blurted out "heartless".

A smiling, liberal Romney then sees his only serious conservative threat being ripped apart by conservatives.

The same knee jerk reaction goes for "The Fence".

"There is only one way to skin a cat and it has to do with a FENCE!"

If you advocate BOOTS ON THE GROUND instead of spending BILLIONS on a Fence that illegals can easily jump over like jackrabbits and cuts off Texas ranchers from the Rio Grande, then you are "soft on illegals" or even FOR illegals.

VIDEO: See how easy it is for illegals to jump over, cut through or dig under Mitt Romney's Fence which costs Billions and cuts off Texas ranchers from the Rio Grande.

It is very easy for some slick-talking liberal from Massachusetts to want a useless Fence built in Texas.

It is harder for the Governor of Texas to tell Texas rancher why a useless Fence is being built that cuts off their cattle and their riverfront property from the Rio Grande.

Boots on the Ground?

That does not count at all. Only Mitt Romney's useless Fence counts. ONLY PUTTING THE ENTIRE RIO GRANDE RIVERFRONT ON MEXICO'S SIDE OF A USELESS FENCE COUNTS.

Go figure.

"Border Leader"

"Border"

Result: Perry is being ripped apart, the 100% Politically Pure "True Conservative" fringe candidates will fare just as well in the 2012 Florida Primary as they fared in the 2008 Florida Primary (beat 50 to 1) and the winner is:

Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney and the liberal media are playing conservatives like a cheap fiddle.

I'll take your heresy and raise you with an anecdote. As a newcomer to the Cain camp, I've been informally chatting with my friends and colleagues around the nation since yesterday.

Two people I spoke with had not yet heard of Cain, two had heard of Cain, but didn't know enough to discuss. Six more people are already familiar with him and are very interested in Herman Cain as a candidate.

One of the two who had not heard of Herman Cain previously contacted me again this morning. Saw local news coverage about him and was very impressed. Another who had only heard Cain's name called to express high regards after doing some research. Momentum is the keyword.

:o)

Romney will indeed win New Hampshire, just like McCain did in 2000 against Bush, but then Perry will win South Carolina, Florida and most of the states on Super Tuesday including Texas and it will be over.

Romney will only win the 7 states McCain did + a couple of states with high mormon populations, Perry will win all the rest, bank on it.
