Bachmann is too right-wing evangelical for my taste. These people do not believe that Catholics are Christians. They are smug in believing they are the only Christians who have been saved by the Precious Blood of Christ.

I can just imagine that they also follow Luther in his vicious anti-Semitism, too.

So now she disassociates herself from the church where she sat and listened to these sermons, without protesting, for ten years?

Reminds me of someone else and his pastor, out in Chicago, just before he ran for President.

Are you comparing the white-hating, America-hating Marxist to Bachmann??????????

Actually we don't know that that pastor ever expressed any anti-Catholic sentiments during a sermon. Do you have proof of that? This isn't quite the same as Obama's situation where we know Obama sat through vitriolic sermons and we have recordings.

Which is like pointing out that sitting in a garage is not synonymous with being a automobile. Almost all will stipulate that if you put your faith in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation, you will be saved according to His promise -- name plates over building doors notwithstanding.

Heaven forbid if Catholics ever become so smug.

The trolls can try to minimize this or change the subject if they wish. But this is all over the Catholic blogosphere now. It has 3 links on Spiritdaily, huge blog widely read by conservative Catholics (who vote in GOP primaries).

It has been picked up by Bill Donohue of the Catholic League, who is very tenacious. Bachmann better come out and explain why she belonged to this “Church” that holds us all in contempt until SIX DAYS BEFORE ANNOUNCING FOR PRESIDENT.

Or else she will be toast. If she isn’t toast already.

I’m for every Republican who decides to get in the race. The debate helps shape the party at this point, and the GOP sure needs re-shaping.

Whining about what one religious denomination thinks about another is a waste of time, unless she doesn’t believe in freedom of religion as enshrined in the Constitution.

EVERY denomination/religion thinks they have some highly redeeming virtue over all the others - otherwise, they wouldn’t exist. If you take offense to every other religion but yours you’ll have plenty of company, but not many friends.

“These people do not believe that Catholics are Christians”

Kind of reminds you of the “no salvation outside the Catholic Church” crowd.

I do not believe any of the Kennedys are Christians... I do not believe the IRA are Christians... I do not believe the Jesuit governor of California, Jerry Brown, is a Christian...

I also do not believe that the tortures, wars and assassination attempts made against non-Catholics by members of the Catholic Church during medieval times and the Renaissance were Christian brotherly love...

One of the things the leftists have done to undermine religion is to convince people (including some who are religious) that it is illegitimate for practitioners of one religion to believe that other religions are in some significant way false.

This is nonsense.

If you believe in a religion then you necessarily believe that others are false in those ways that they differ from yours.

Your imagination is of little interest or value. Why don't you do some homework instead of sitting there with your thumb up your a&&.

This is why it would be a mistake to nominate Bachmann. Catholics make up 23-26% of the US population. You're not going to convince them that Bachmann is not anti-Catholic. Add to that the 26% of voters who are unaffiliated, who would consider her a religious fanatic, and you have approximately a majority. Then there's the fact that no President since Lincoln has ever been elected from the House of Representatives. (In fact, he's the only one, I believe, since John Q. Adams was in the House after his presidency and Ford was vice president before succeeding to president).

Let's pass a Constitutional amendment that says only Universalists can be elected President! [/sarcasm]

Luther broke away from the Catholic Church - so there lies the emphasis in their tenants regarding the Pope and the Catholic Church.

I grew up in that religion and a nicer bunch of people you will never meet. I didn’t see any Evangelicalism at all - perhaps she enhances it with her own personal beliefs. I saw no antisemitism either. What the Church “officially” thinks and what the people actually hear on Sundays may be two very different things.

All Christian denominations believe that they and their church are the true believers. Catholics think the same thing.

I think her quitting the Church was a bad move - it draws attention to it.

Just like every other Calvinist since the 16th century.

Including Slick Willie and Jimmuh.

No, they believe you can only be saved by faith WITHOUT works in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.Eph.2:8-9, Tit.3:5)

That is not the same Gospel that the RCC preaches.

Any evidence of this ? Beside your wild imaginings, I mean.

Furthermore, at every evangelical church I have ever attended, all Christians are invited to take communion, no questions asked. That is not true at Catholic churches. Now, who is the exclusionary group of Christians again ?
