Kirk to miss part of lame-duck session
Updated at 11:36 AM today

November 6, 2010 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) -- Illinois Republican Mark Kirk won't be seated in the U.S. Senate in time for the start of the lame duck session of Congress this month -- unlike two other newly elected senators.

The session begins Nov. 15. But state officials say the paperwork officially declaring Kirk the winner of the Senate race won't be delivered until Nov. 29.

That should still allow Kirk to participate in two weeks of the session in December. He argued strongly during the campaign that voters needed to send him to the Senate quickly so he could help block spending and tax increases.

Two Democrats are expected to be sworn in at the start of the lame duck session. Chris Coons of Delaware will fill the remainder of Vice President Joe Biden's term, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia replaces the late Robert Byrd.

Remarkable you seem to claim to be the only one from Chicago who doesn’t know who Brady is.

If you are going to quote me, quote me accurately. I said I had never heard of him until he won the primary. I truly doubt that one out of ten people in the Chicago area knew who he was before this year.

Did he ever run commercials on the Chicago stations in 2006? I don't remember any.

Just saying YOU didn’t hear of him speaks only to yourself. So which Combiner were you backing in the primary ? Tell me, did you even vote for Brady in the general ? Combiners were only permitted to vote for Quinn (and Kirk). Since you and “virtually all” of Chicago have “no clue” who Brady is/was, how could you vote for him, right ?

As for commercials in ‘06, why don’t you ask the fella you accused of not living in Illinois ? Y’know, the one whom is a lifelong resident of Chicago. BTW, where do you live ? You give no information on your page, another reason to be highly suspicious of you and your mission here. A US flag is not a state. The rest of us fly our flags proudly and contribute mightily to our state pages. You seem to be absent from that. Your handle is also peculiar for somebody who claims to be an “expert” on IL. Inyokern... 2 counties and a town in California. What’s up with that ? Very odd.

Yes, of course I voted for Brady in the general. I voted for Andy McKenna in the primary. I did not say I “used to live in Kirk’s district.” I said I live in what used to be Kirk’s district.

My screen name is Inyokern because I was born at China Lake Naval Base. My father was in the Navy at the time.

The polling numbers for months are completely at odds with the election results. There's no way Kirk got more votes in suburban Crook when he didn't even campaign there while Brady stumped here endlessly. The numbers in Crook county were fixed. Kirk is in the Senate because the Chicago machine WANTED him there. He takes his marching orders from them.

DING DING DING!!!

I went over these numbers like you did there is no doubt Quinn was shoved in by the combine since Brady isn't part of it. The "Beer Summit" made me ill.

We knocked off four dems in the house and had huge conservative output, the city put the fix in as usual.

I live in what used to be Kirk's congressional district. I had never heard of Brady before he won the senatorial primary. Are you saying you HAD? How many people around Chicago knew who he was? He had been a state senator from Bloomington. Unfortunately, Quinn was able to paint him as some kind of radical and Brady never was able to introduce himself to the electorate.

Wow where did you crawl up from? Many of us supported Bill Brady in 2006, the combine chose Judy Baar Topinka to take the fall for Blago. I met Bill Brady January 26, 2006 and knew that he was the real deal. I voted for him against Judy Baar Topinka way back then.

Bill Brady was very visible in Cook County. He had an event in Orland Park 6 days before the election and that same night had a fundraiser at Judy Biggert's house in Hinsdale.

The election was stolen from Bill Brady. Roskam won with 64%, Biggert won with 64% their largest wins ever. The conservatives showed up. But due to massive voter fraud and voter intimidation (WHICH I HAVE VIDEO TAPE EVIDENCE OF) Bill Brady had the election stolen.

If you didn't see Brady's ads on TV or the radio then you must be living in a bubble.

And all of the IL FReepers I know knew of Brady long before the Feb. Primary. The combine wanted Dillard to win. Quinn stated before the election that he would raise taxes! Yet he still wins???

How does that make any sense?

Kirk won because Alexi is probably going to end up in prison and the combine didn't want another Blago on their hands. Now I don't think Alexi would be on The Apprentice but he has an ego just as large as Blago.

I met Senator Kirk, I will admit he was a very nice guy, but you know who else I met in 2005 who I thought was a nice guy? Barack Obama. I got his autograph and told my mom that he would be President. Some of us who are IL Political Junkies have insight.

The two FReepers you are attacking know more about IL Politics than you can possibly imagine. One was an election judge and has been active in fighting for conservative candidates. The other has been helping combat the combine machine that sends moles into websites like FR to spread disinformation.

Please look at the numbers of how many folks voted for the GOP Congressmen and that should clearly show you that this election was fixed.

Logic would state that if Quinn won then Alexi should have won. Wake up, this state is being controlled by thugs!!!

I actually worked for an IL Congresswoman I know how bad things are, I personally don't believe she is in the combine for reasons I choose not to share for privacy issues. But one reason that makes me believe this is she was on the stump for Brady, she had a huge fundraiser for Brady at her home!!! Kirk didn't lift a finger for Brady.

Yes, of course I voted for Brady in the general. I voted for Andy McKenna in the primary. I did not say I “used to live in Kirk’s district.” I said I live in what used to be Kirk’s district.

And McKenna IS A COMBINER and did more damage to the IL GOP than and IL GOP Chair in the HISTORY OF THIS STATE!!!

You claim that no one heard of Brady in 06 because you didn't hear of him? What makes you so high and mighty???

There were MANY GOP debates, one in Naperville Jan 26, 06 when I met Brady, I remember the exact date because it is my birthday.

I know that everyone I was related to and friends with voted for Brady in 2006. And a lot of my church members did as well and my church is a 5000 member church in Naperville a town with well over 100,000 people in it!

You may have just been in a deep slumber back in 2006, but this year Brady spent the majority of his time in the Chicagoland area he had hundreds of rallys all over the area.

Mark Kirk was no where to be found. Mark Kirk is for partial birth abortion, banning guns, he voted for cap and tax (which I think shoots a hole in your whole anti-tax argument) cap and tax would be the largest tax increase yet! And he voted for that. He voted against health care, but so did every other Republican even the bum in New Orleans learned that he needed to go with the party or he'd be thrown out of it.

Alexi lost because he was a tremendous liability to the Obama Administration. I predicted long ago that he will be indited and it will happen very soon. Now how would that look to have a criminal sitting in Obama's former seat? We know he was the money man for Rezko and other mobsters and you are telling me that Obama campaigned more for Alexi than anyone else? That's completely false!!!

He came here once I think and it was a short rally on a weekend with a rent a mob crowd. Michelle Obama was here at an event and that is pretty much it. To claim that Obama was here more than anywhere else is a lie.

He went to Pennsylvania a ton of times, Ohio a ton of times, Florida a ton of times, Nevada to save Harry Reid, he went to California several times for Barbara Boxer and he was in Washington for Patty Murray!

He was in Chicago once for a rent a mob crowd for an hour and left.

Obama has been on the golf course more than he has been in Chicago since he became POTUS. That is a fact.

Yup. The Tribune says today that Quinn feels he has a mandate to raise taxes. I wish we had had a better candidate than Brady to run against him. Quinn's victory is a disaster. A Giannoulias victory would have been a disaster too. At least THAT didn't happen.

Just fyi, the gentlemen you are debating with here have been pushing a theory (among others) for quite some time that it was ok for Giannoulias to win because he would then be indicted and Governor Brady would select his replacement.

So the other guy, the Rat appointed by Blago, gets to continue in this seat at the start of the lame-duck!?

No, Burris' time in the Senate was done on election day.

There needs to be a lawsuit here in Illinois to force the Democratic controlled State Election Board to certify Kirk as the winner so he can be seated.

To do otherwise deprives the good citizens of Illinois of their duly elected Senate representation. That should be the basis of the lawsuit.

According to you, Kirk is a "Combiner" and Obama wanted him to win all along. So I'm curious, what is your theory on why are they are now holding up his deployment to Washington?

WTF.

This brazen illegal interference with lawful succession is effectively an act of war by a seditious band of traitors.

I spent a fair amount of time looking at the numbers myself and it's never made sense that Kirk carried suburban C(r)ook county while Brady was virtually persona non grata. I've been all over the southwest suburbs (Palos area, Orland, etc..) and didn't see a single Quinn sign. Brady signs I saw all over.

I don't know if I can go so far as saying the election was "fixed" but I'm darn sure having a hard time finding any other logical reason for the results ....

I'm just glad I don't live in C(r)ook county. Not that Will is much better, but at least it's not C(r)ook.

Gawd I hope you're not talking about Judy Biggert. She's completely WORTHLESS. (Yes, she's my Rep. I can't stand her.)

Who’s more conservative...Kirk or Manchin?

I love questions that in a few words expose things for what they really are. Your is one of them. Kudoes.

I may not agree with this line of argument but the answer here seems fairly simple to me: To give the Democrats time to pass their lame duck agenda while giving Mark Kirk "cover" as a "fiscal conservative."

What’s this “according to” crapola ? Just because you don’t acknowledge it doesn’t mean it isn’t so. You and your shilling pals remind me of this loony toons member of my family who grew up believing this powerful political figure in our family was of one party when I pointed out (as public record), he was from the party she hated. She flipped out and denied it vociferously and attacked me personally. Crazy moonbats.

Nobody is holding up his going to Washington. He’s still in the House, isn’t that bad enough ? As for his Senate fix, he’ll go when the Combine tells him to... just like he’ll switch parties when they tell him to. He follows orders from them, you know about that, don’t you, pal ?

"According to you" is for clarification and accuracy.

"You", as opposed to anyone else.

The useful purpose of the term in this instance is to identify and seperate your ideas, notions, and comments from those of other posters.

If you wish to defer or attribute those ideas to others, be my guest.
