Kirk to miss part of lame-duck session
Updated at 11:36 AM today

November 6, 2010 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) -- Illinois Republican Mark Kirk won't be seated in the U.S. Senate in time for the start of the lame duck session of Congress this month -- unlike two other newly elected senators.

The session begins Nov. 15. But state officials say the paperwork officially declaring Kirk the winner of the Senate race won't be delivered until Nov. 29.

That should still allow Kirk to participate in two weeks of the session in December. He argued strongly during the campaign that voters needed to send him to the Senate quickly so he could help block spending and tax increases.

Two Democrats are expected to be sworn in at the start of the lame duck session. Chris Coons of Delaware will fill the remainder of Vice President Joe Biden's term, and Joe Manchin of West Virginia replaces the late Robert Byrd.

this is typical. Just as typical as Democrat operatives finding boxes or bags of ballots in close races.

So that’s their plan?

Try to ram everything thru in the two weeks of Nov. 15-29?

Lisa Murkowski better not flip.

Still shillin’ for the Socialist, I see.

If you think there is no difference between Kirk and Burris (the current senator) on the issue of the Bush tax cuts then you are impervious.

Do you want to see the Bush tax cuts extended or don't you?

But will Burris sit in the seat until then, or is he gone now?

There's no way Kirk got more votes in suburban Crook when he didn't even campaign there while Brady stumped here endlessly.

Huh? Are you even from Illinois? Kirk is FROM suburban Cook. Brady was unknown in Cook County. Literally unknown. 90% of the people in the Chicago area never heard of him.

In short, Kirk is the same ultra liberal a-hole he's always been - if not worse.

If you read this article, he won’t be seated for the lame duck session.

I am too. I voted for Mike Labno, I helped him get his 2+% of the vote. I didn't think for a minute that he would win but as the only candidate on the ballot who was pro life and pro 2a, he got my vote.

Mark Kirk will align himself just a dab to the left of Collins and Snowe.

I don't want to see anybody on here praising this as a great "conservative" victory, as our state has just sent another far leftist to the Senate.

Unfortunately brady read the polls and was coasting the last week. He did not even campaign over the final weekend. He must have forgotten that he was in illinois where a republican has to win by a 5 percent margin or the election will be stolen.

Yes, I am from Illinois and I'm also a lifelong resident of suburban Cook County. Are you?

Most of Kirk's congressional district is in Lake County. The Cook County portion, consisting of the far north suburbs along the lakefront, is the wealthiest portion of the state. Towns like Kenilworth where the average home costs a million bucks. It has very little in common with the rest of Cook. Kirk talked about his "suburban agenda", which was limited to his own district. He gave the other 90% of suburbia the middle figure and was AWOL at every event I attended.

Bill Brady is from downstate Bloomington-Normal. His son Will attends law school at DePaul University in Chicago so he has a visible presence here. His son was kind enough to drive by my house during the primary and drop off supplies when I couldn't get any. After the primary, Bill Brady realized he needed to get his message out here so from Feb. to Nov. he had roughly 75% of his campaign events in Chicagoland. Bill Brady was in my local community at least half a dozen times in the past few months (at the opening of the Worth Township Republican office, Evergreen Park Independence Parade, etc.), meeting and greeting thousands of voters -- mostly middle and working class communities. Mark Kirk was AWOL at every one of them. I never ONCE saw Kirk in the southwest suburbs (gee, we have only 500,000 people, must not be important). Even Kirk's website says the only event Kirk had in "my region" the entire campaign was a closed-door fundraiser in Palos Heights.

This election was fixed. Wake up, Inyokern.

He’s just playing stupid, he knows the score. He’s one of the online footsoldiers for the fix. The most corrupt farce in Illinois since November 1960, and a visceral affront to a free republican democracy. Why bother with voting when the results are predetermined ? Well past time the people return the favor upon these tyrannical oppressors with all due vigilance.

These Kirk shills are more disgusting than the man himself. They're out coming up with fictional “reasons” why Kirk won & Brady lost (Brady's views on abortion scared away the suburban moms!!) and I can't let them get away with this crap. Funny how Congressman Lipinski EASILY won the “moderate” suburban Crook County when he's 100% pro-life and vocal about it. Of course the difference is he's combine approved.

None of the poll numbers reflected their “explanation” that Kirk appealed more to females and “minorities” in the suburbs (especially since Kirk's negatives about twice as high as Brady's going into the election), but since when did facts matter?

Now they have lots more excuses to shove down “electable” (i.e. socialist) RINOs down our throats in 2012.

I've pretty much given up on this state. The combine runs everything and gets plenty of support from useful idiot “conservatives”

Literally unknown. 90% of the people in the Chicago area never heard of him.

What cost Brady was the third party vote. ~8% went third in the governors race, while ~3% went third party in the senate race. That is how Blago got his 2nd term..

As this map shows (with the right colors, not the newsspeak propaganda crap), Quinn is Governor of Chicago and the dead, Democrat-ruined localities of East St. Louis and Cairo (and even the latter two couldn't muster much enthusiasm for him)... to have fraud in one single county override the wishes of virtually the other 99% of the state is outrageous beyond description.
