Rove Rage

Election '10: An iconic pundit and strategist takes heat for his election night analysis of a Tea Party victory in Delaware. Can we now focus on those who are really leading America over the cliff?

Karl Rove's political street cred is beyond dispute. He's the guru who, to the dismay of Democrats and liberals still clinging to their hanging chads, guided that cowboy from Texas, George W. Bush, to the White House — twice. When he speaks, people listen.

On Fox News last Tuesday, Rove ran off a laundry list of everything that's wrong with Christine O'Donnell, the candidate backed by the Tea Party Express and Sarah Palin who won the Republican Senate primary in Delaware. The Democrats, he said, would pick her apart on personal "issues" such as how she paid off her college loans.

The reaction from the "angry mobs" that became the Tea Party movement was fast and furious. Many thought Rove's remarks would be a good commercial for O'Donnell's Democratic opponent in November, Chris Coons.

Rove could have better spent the time marveling at the political force that has propelled Joe Miller in Alaska, Sharron Angle in Nevada and now O'Donnell to victory against entrenched political interests. An unelectable Scott Brown, R-Mass., now sits in the "Kennedy seat" in the U.S. Senate and the unelectable Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is poised to join what promises to be a most interesting GOP caucus in that same body.

Take a breath . . . Rove is as entitled to his opinion (and advocacy) as you are. What’s with the over-the-top incivility?!

Roves bitternes and rancor.

I don’t understand the whole Rossi thing, or why Republicans in Washington State comport themselves as weak and apologetic. Rossi needs to get some fire and quickly. The “I was a janitor at the Space Needle” is not cutting it. Go for the jugular already!

Let’s see how O’Donnell does going forward. I also heard a bit of her on Cspan tonight and was impressed. She’s in a different universe now. She’s got money and the attention of the nation. Palin said tonight after her speech that she wants to go back to Delaware soon.

Speaking of Palin’s speech, wasn’t that something how she rattled off the names of a lot of moderate republican grumblers including Rove. Whack, whack, whack!

I hope he is on Fox a lot; I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next. I don’t understand why everyone is so upset with Rove and Krauthammer for expressing their opinions. I disagree with them, but I disagreed with everything Bill Clinton did and said. I still watched him every time he was on. Rove’s opinion, like yours and mine, doesn’t mean a whole lot. The voters have spoken and their opinion is the only one that matters.

Given that a week ago only a handful of Freepers even knew much less cared about O’Donnell, I can only conclude that the usual suspects — the Paulinian/neo-libertarian/third party zealots — are ginning up anger at Rove for their own nefarious purposes. These purposes, of course, have nothing to do with either O’Donnell or Rove.

[FYI: I ‘know’ and like you — I remember you from the good ole days — and certainly do not include you among those in the ‘nefarious’ group. However, the purity of your motives doesn’t alter what’s actually going on here.]

I just wonder. Could it be that Karl Rove did this on purpose? Could it be that her realizes that all these BAD THINGS are dirt that the liberals and democrats had on Ms ODonnel. By coming out and maybe running through the list and really hitting her hard NOW she is somehow immunized from this coming out in dribs and drabs or in a surprise fashion in October or just before the election.

So say they accuse her of lying about her resume... "Old news, lets talk about the issues.."

What about your failure to pay taxes..."Old news, just repeating what others have said.... lets talk about the issues."

Boyfriend bought house that was foreclosed on...."there you go again with that old stuff. Can't you talk about the issues? We're here to help Delaware and all you want to do is partake in the politics of personal destruction and OLD NEWS.

this might just be an example of using the democrat technique of immunization to scandal as "Old news" "nothing to see here" . hahahahahaha.

Maybe Rove is a "magnificent bastard" after all. just maybe? Spread this around and see what others think.

So why are they going after O'Donnell as unelectable, when Rossi, whom they deem electable is failing?

Rossi and Castle were both Cornyn's handpicked candidates. As a political operative, Rove was probably involved. Rove was unquestionably involved in trying to make sure O'Donnell didn't win the primary.

They're going after O'Donnell now because they're annoyed that the little people (the voters) had a different opinion on who the candidate should be in the general election.

see my post 50. I was wondering if Rove might not be really stabbing us but actually helping O'Donnell. I've thought about it today and it just didn't make sense for Rove to go all whack-a-doodle. He never did that even when Bush was getting killed by the networks and stabbed in the back by McCain and crew.

I just thought that maybe he did her a favor. What do you all think?

Why are you attacking the messenger instead of addressing the message?

All I have done is give you a simple recitation of the facts.

Unlike Rove, I have give the sources for the facts on Rove contact with Castle's camp.

Rove, on the other hand, is allowed to go out and make accusations, with no factual back up and we are simply to accept his accusations as "facts"?

Why does Rove get a free ride to spread his slanderous attacks on O'Donnell? Then when the documented evidence is presented by O'Donnell why is Rove allowed to simply ignore it to continue his slanderous statements?

Why is Rove to be held immune from any consequence for his actions?

Why is Rove allowed to go on national TV day after day, with no questions asked of him, demanding a standard of conduct from his political foe, that he himself has not live up to?

Can we also discuss Mort Kondracke referring to Sharron Angle (AZ-Winner) as a “nut” & “wacko” on Bret’s panel this evening?

No. That was a visceral, emotional response that, like Obama, Rove has chosen to double-down on rather than to back away from.

It's the ego that drives one to double-down instead of accepting your loss and taking your remaining chips to play another day.

We used to call that spending "political capital." Apparently, even that has become so personalized that the slightest perceived slight brings on a full assualt.

To me, it's the political version of the high-school kid who, dumped by his girlfriend, brings a gun to school and randomly shoots everyone close to him in despair.

I do think his foolishness will help O’Donell...as far as him going whacko...he did so because his real liberal conscience caught up with him. The enemy within can disguise himself for a long time, but eventually his conscience catches up with him.

We need to recognize and weed out RINO’S.

Johnnie, I’m merely asking you to consider this whole pseudo-controversy from a MACRO level — the level that I identified in my previous comment.

[FYI: I don’t know or care about O’Donnell — and neither do most people on this forum. She is simply a proxy for those who are fighting ‘other’ battles.]
