California's white population has declined since 2000 at an unprecedented rate, hastening the day when Hispanics will be the state's largest population group, according to newly released state figures.
There were half a million fewer whites in California in 2008 than in 2000, a period when the state's overall population grew by 4 million to 38.1 million, according to a study released Thursday by the state Department of Finance.
By 2008, whites made up 40 percent of Californians, down from 47 percent at the turn of the century. In 2000, Hispanics comprised 32 percent of the population; that number grew to 37 percent in 2008.
The study also confirmed projections that a steadily growing Hispanic population will surpass whites as the state's largest racial demographic in 2016. Hispanics are expected to become a majority of all Californians in 2042, Heim said.

Latinos and blacks can make deals and promise each other this and that, but sooner or later, they’re going to realize that we don’t have any money left.
It’s sort of like how the democrats play both the muslims and Jews. I believe a lot of Jews may be having a wakeup call.

Do I see a cause and effect here? Has California been going to hell in a hand basket in direct proportion to the influx?
Glad I visited California a few times in the ‘70s and ‘80s while it was still the ‘Golden State’.
Yeah, illegal immigration and anchor babies are a big part of this, but don’t forget legal immigration. We admit over a millions legal immigrants per year, hundreds of thousands of which are Hispanic, and many of those go to California. I believe California is also the top destination for Asian immigrants as well, and they have favored the Democrats as well since at least Clinton. If we ended all illegal immigration, then California would still be on its way to becoming a Mexcian state, and would still be increasingly out of reach for the GOP.
It may be true that later generations of immigrants turn more Republican, but that is a false hope to cling to now. For one thing, all past waves of immigration were followed by periods of very little to moderate immigration. This wave shows now sign of ending on its own (and it won’t due to extended family chain migration), and the GOP establishment has not got behind any serious effort to reduce immigration. In fact, some Republicans helped torpedo the last attempt that had a real chance of success during the Clinton administration.
