Democratic House members are so worried about the fall elections they're leaving Washington on July 30, a full week earlier than normaland they won't return until mid-September. Members gulped when National Journal's Charlie Cook, the Beltway's leading political handicapper, predicted last month "the House is gone," meaning a GOP takeover. He thinks Democrats will hold the Senate, but with a significantly reduced majority.
The rush to recess gives Democrats little time to pass any major laws. That's why there have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.

I’m sensing Bela is becoming paranoid...she’s been very quiet the last two weeks......and an email she put out asking for donations for her “defense fund” is telling......
Repubs need to hang together - especially those 41 in the Senate.
And a clever incoming House Speaker might have a chat with our young president, inquiring if the president wants to get ANYTHING done in the next two years.
I M P E A C H M E N T !
And without 2/3’s of both houses to override a Veto, you won’t be able to repeal any of it.
Have a nice day. :)
....seriously though, :(
If that happens, Republicans should pass whatever funding is required, force a vote on a repeal of the lame duck session laws, and then shut down the government until Obama cooperates.
Maybe they could repeal NAFTA ...
paging Darryl Issa, please pick up the white impeachment hearings telephone.
I’d say the one up side is that it would endanger the remaining Democrats two years later. Not much of an up side though, because it would also doom the economy.
The House, however, controls the purse strings.
If the rats pass legislation in the Lame Duck session that the new Congress disagrees with, the new Congress....meaning, the House of Representatives....should refuse to fund the new programs passed during the Lsme Duck session.
They can de-fund any program. FUBO
Oh, they are SO wrong about the voter retaliation part.
To borrow a line from Gandalf, YOU...shall not PASS!!!!!!
OK, having said that, what is the legal game plan that can overcome yet another dirty trick post-election?
Fortunately McConnell apparently has the necessary parliamentary skills, and doesn't have to worry about reelection himself until 2014.
Do it in December, Mitch. SHUT HER DOWN! Nothing, NOTHING, gets done, nothing gets passed.
There is one little word they may not like....Fillibuster! They only have 57 votes in the Senate now and can’t pass anything if the other side stands strong and together. Too late you lose. They can pass whatever they want in the house it will never make it through the Senate.

Thank you for the info! Hope it’s reliable.
Would our guys really have the balls to do that?
With Keith Olbermann dragging an endless parade of victims before his cameras?
People surprise me all the time, I’m just saying.
I am praying... at least some are talking about it.
