Go for it!
The lame duck concern is being over-hyped. There will be plenty of Senate RATS who are already at risk for 2012 and will not consent to an aggressive lame duck session, particularly as they witness the GOP gaining around 7 Senate seats in November. These RATS will be terrified. Ben Nelson is a good example; he’s already running for re-election, oblivious to the fact that he is toast due to his unforgiveable health care vote.
The ABUSES and HORRIFYING ATTEMPTED DISMANTLING OF AMERICA insists on these events.
Hate to say it, but this is also the last black President I will see in my lifetime. Obama spoiled it for a good black man.
JUSTICE!
“Repubs need to hang together - especially those 41 in the Senate”
I believe they will hold together. The session is only for like a month, and WE will need to hold their feet to the fire, but after the shallacking the Dems take in November, the Repubs should have all the political backbone they need to block everything attempted during this lame-duck session.
Personally, I’m not too worried about it.
The republicans should have enough votes to shut down the Senate during that time, unless the bastards try to pass EVERYTHING via reconciliation.
The Senate still has the power of the filibuster so I don’t see how anything really destructive can make it through.
You know that push to bring all the “first responders”, the police, fire, paramedics, etc, all under one federal union? Well, Pelosi tacked it onto the military funding bill at the last minute after all debate was ended. It would take away all local control of police, fire and paramedics. The hiring, firing, pay and promotions would all be union controlled, based on union seniority. They could sent inner city, former gang bangers to serve in your local fire house or police station, all the while demanding the same wages for the small town officer as for the NYC patrol man. You will love it.
Card Check is so awful that even the Dems secretly don’t want to pass it. Dems continue to pay it lip service though as they want the Union campaign donations to keep rolling in. What happens when the Union bosses realize that the Dem double-talkers have played them for schmucks?
Any lame ducks that try this stuff better find new names, professions and places to live.
First in line....Franklin Raines of Fannie and Freddie.
The new Congress doesn't have to fund ANY of it.
“Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.”
That remains to be seen. Some of the scum had better build themselves bunkers.
“They can de-fund any program.”
That’s going to be the key. FUBO!!!
“Fortunately McConnell apparently has the necessary parliamentary skills, and doesn’t have to worry about reelection himself until 2014.”
If he does the right thing, he’ll get re-elected in a landslide.
I am hoping this specter (investigations and criminal prosecution) hangs over Democrats in Congress who attempt a scorched earth policy of legislation. The wrong thing to do when the pot is boiling is to turn up the stove to full.
Well, there is that nuclear option thing, and of course, there are many RINOS among the Republicans, and some of them will just have been reelected. Therefore, they may not be so worried about the voters back home anymore. I can already feel the stab in the back.
