Thanks AtlasStalled.
National Journal's Charlie Cook, the Beltway's leading political handicapper, predicted last month "the House is gone," meaning a GOP takeover. He thinks Democrats will hold the Senate, but with a significantly reduced majority.

I’m sensing Bela is becoming paranoid...she’s been very quiet the last two weeks......and an email she put out asking for donations for her “defense fund” is telling......

Repubs need to hang together - especially those 41 in the Senate.
And a clever incoming House Speaker might have a chat with our young president, inquiring if the president wants to get ANYTHING done in the next two years.

And without 2/3’s of both houses to override a Veto, you won’t be able to repeal any of it.
Have a nice day. :)
....seriously though, :(

If that happens, Republicans should pass whatever funding is required, force a vote on a repeal of the lame duck session laws, and then shut down the government until Obama cooperates.

I’d say the one up side is that it would endanger the remaining Democrats two years later. Not much of an up side though, because it would also doom the economy.

Oh, they are SO wrong about the voter retaliation part.
To borrow a line from Gandalf, YOU...shall not PASS!!!!!!
OK, having said that, what is the legal game plan that can overcome yet another dirty trick post-election?

Mitch better grow pair. It's gonna be up to him to stop all this. Time to bring on that total shutdown Senate Republicans promised to invoke after the outrageous abuse of reconciliation.
Fortunately McConnell apparently has the necessary parliamentary skills, and doesn't have to worry about reelection himself until 2014.
Do it in December, Mitch. SHUT HER DOWN! Nothing, NOTHING, gets done, nothing gets passed.

There is one little word they may not like....Fillibuster! They only have 57 votes in the Senate now and can’t pass anything if the other side stands strong and together. Too late you lose. They can pass whatever they want in the house it will never make it through the Senate.
To: AtlasStalled
Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.Go for it!

The republicans should have enough votes to shut down the Senate during that time, unless the bastards try to pass EVERYTHING via reconciliation.

The Senate still has the power of the filibuster so I don’t see how anything really destructive can make it through.

Amnesty is the most grievous lame duck threat, but John Fund can't mention that, because he's at the pro-Amnesty, Open Borders, WSJ.

Card Check is so awful that even the Dems secretly don’t want to pass it. Dems continue to pay it lip service though as they want the Union campaign donations to keep rolling in. What happens when the Union bosses realize that the Dem double-talkers have played them for schmucks?

Any lame ducks that try this stuff better find new names, professions and places to live.
