A kitten, believed to be about 6 weeks old, is now being cared for by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa after being found this week in the trash. ARL Director Tom Colvin says the baby girl kitten, now named Alley, was one of six kittens found by Waste Management workers in Des Moines early Wednesday morning. They were found in a garbage bag when one of their trucks came in and dumped its load, Colvin said.
Alley was the only kitten still alive. Colvin says Alley is very fortunate, not only to survive, but also because she seems comfortable around people and will eventually make a good pet for a family. Alley, fortunately, is very trusting of people, definitely likes people and always feels better when shes around people, Colvin said. Thats not always the case with abused or neglected pets that end up in animal shelters.

Bush’s fault.
That makes two of us! I've had three wonderful torties, and have never been without one since 1976. I remember when one of my girls "objected" to her rabies injection at the vet's office. She sent the syringe flying across the room and bolted for the safety of the top of a cabinet. The vet was very good natured about it. He just chuckled and remarked that torties tend to be "full of piss and vinegar". She was sweet as the day was long, but plenty of spark too.
Our current tortie and her calico sister are feral rescue kitties. They've made wonderful pets - very sweet.
Little Girl’s lucky...1) She survived an attack by an A-hole, 2) She loves her people and 3) she is a major league cutie pie! Check out those eye markings....
Yesterday my granddaughter and I were picking cherries and heard a wren going nuts from the neighboring apple tree. We went over and the bird house had fallen. There were two new hatchlings lying on the ground next to it. We both know not to pick up baby birds but these little things would have had no chance so I gently picked each one up, dropped it back in the house, and wedged the house in a crook in the tree and we went away. Yesterday evening I looked out the window and there was the wren hopping in. I figure that had they died, she would not have been going into the house. Good lesson for my little one. Babies have an amazing ability to survive. Good to hear this story this morning.
This was the lead story on the Des Moines news last night!
Of course she survived — she’s my namesake :)
Whew! One life down and eight to go. Here’s hoping that they’re all very, very happy ones for such a sweet little baby girl.
