The Evolution of Peggy Noonan

From Obama lover to this?

The New York Times today adds yet another installment in my series "what went wrong" with the Obama presidency by focusing the blame on chief strategist David Axelrod. Good old David, who just loves Obama a little too much is under fire for not doing a better job directing the President. Axelrod's response was combative and so typical of the denial of reality which grips the Obama White House:

In an interview in his office, Mr. Axelrod was often defiant, saying he did not give a “flying” expletive “about what the peanut gallery thinks” and did not live for the approval “of the political community.”
That "peanut gallery" includes the many wise and experienced sages who have watched with horror as the promise of Obama's campaign turned into the sour train wreck we see daily. One of those sages, who got caught up in Obama hype was former Reagan speechwriter and columnist Peggy Noonan.

Peggy went from praising Obama early on to this:

What a Disaster Looks Like ObamaCare will have been a colossal waste of time—if we’re lucky. The Wall Street Journal March 4, 2010

It is now exactly a year since President Obama unveiled his health care push and his decision to devote his inaugural year to it—his branding year, his first, vivid year.

What a disaster it has been.

Peanut gallery = American People. These people occasionally speak the truth...unintentionally.

Peggy’s beef about Bummercare is that the Rats fumbled the political football in their fight over it, turning it into a spectacle of big spending that turned the stomachs of America. She still would have wanted to see Rat-esque changes in health care policy.

Even Jimmy Carter respected the worth of peanuts.

Noonan has been all over the map in recent years, I think she's been increasingly incoherent, but I think her praising Obama at the beginning only to hammer him later is a deliberate tactic used by many in the press, and in this case ostensibly on the right to appear fair minded. They don't want to be seen as being against Obama from the beginning, so they write laudatory fluff columns at first about his redemptive change and post-racial qualities only to slowly work toward their confirming their inherent distate for his ideology. Personally I'll just take the “he sucks on day one” columnist.

They should have printed Axelrod's comments in the original german.

How could someone work for Ronald Reagan, then come to support the likes of the socialist Obama. Noonan is an idiot with no ideological compass.

Because Harvard-educated Obama and his wife can't figure out how to pour kool-aid out a boot with directions on the bottom. /sarc

It’s always politics-as-theater with Peggy. She doesn’t really oppose Obama’s policies, she is just bored with his act.

Nope...Peggy was smitten and now feels jilted. She's got a long long road to go to ever convince me to ever read her fluff again.

Sorry Peggy. You’re just like Newt and a lot of other Power Corridor residences: you may have a lot of insider knowledge and insights, but your judgment can no longer be trusted. Ever.

Noonan is a superlative speechwriter. Tell her what you need and she'll cook up a stemwinder.

As a columnist she is weepy and, worst of all, she has to think for herself which means the best you'll get are the tablescraps of the Upper West Side echo chambers she frequents.

Same difference, since it seems that once they are placed there, they don’t want to move.
