Eighteen pigs wrapped in protective Kevlar blankets were blasted in a bid to help scientists understand more about the effects of bomb blasts on victims.
The animals were placed less than three yards from an explosive. Before being blown up, tubes were inserted into their blood vessels and bladders, and their spleens were removed.
Medics hope the experiments will help British soldiers in Afghanistan as well as casualties of terror attacks like the July 2005 bombing of the London Underground and a double-decker bus.
No pigs survived the experiments.

Pigs? That ought to make the muzzies happy.
Waste of good pork! Should had used muzzies or at least some liberals!
Well, at least they didn’t waterboard them.
Good eatin!
Shock/blast waves are just as deadly as the force of debris and initial expansion. Insides can be pulverized and traumatic brain damage can happen easily. This is a big problem for our soldiers, and if the sacrifice of a few pigs helps, then march on....
What, no squirrels?
What till PETA hears about this!!! ;-)
I saw an experiment on Myth Busters where they successfully tenderized meat using explosives. So those pork chops should be very nice.
What a waste of BBQ potential.
Speaking of blowing up animals that could be eaten, I have a pond that is full of trash fish (minnows that grew into worthless adult fish).
I want to stock this pond with good fish like bass. Now my question is, if I toss some dynamite into one end of the pond (it’s pretty big) those fish on that end will die. The survivors would flee to the other end, I imagine, where I’d then detonate a second explosive.
Of course this is the most fun way to do this, but can anyone think of another way to get trash fish out of a pond, short of draining said pond?
This is no allegory for Islamo-terrorism. I seriously want to know.
I was hoping for a new bomb with the power to kill terrorists and prevent them form getting their 97 virgins and see Allah.
Talking to the Sunday Times he said: These are revolting and unnecessary experiments. Sadly, we are too familiar with the effects of terrorism. It is perfectly possible to find out things we dont know without blowing up pigs to find out.
Oddly enough, I agree with MP Baker. We should not be killing pigs when a steady supply of islamist are at hand.
I think using explosives at both ends would effectively "drain" the pond anyway.
Pigs in a blanket (Kevlar).
Somewhere William Ayers is having a chuckle over this.
Why dont you just go ahead and put the bass in the pond and let them go to work on the minnows.
Talk about coincidences, I just finished posting on a thread about dead headless goats used in horse races or something and now this thread about blowing up pigs.........Sunday mornings just keep getting better and better around here.
Be careful whatever you do.
I think I saw/read somewhere that if you attach wires to the positive and negative poles of a 12 volt battery and dropped the wires into the water it would "shock" the fish to the surface. I don't know if it would really work but it may be worth a try.
