“But the House plan isn’t really about filling evidence gaps — it’s about controlling costs. “Science” is merely a veneer.”
Actually this is not about controlling costs, it’s about controlling people.
Welcome to ObamaNation.
What is crazy is that rich and poor alike are injured by the shutdown of medical technology development. I suspect that the rich (including Congressional democrats) WILL have access to new developments, while the rest of us are all shut out.
Another bad sign is the appointment of that evil Luddite prick, Dr. Sidney Wolfe, to a critical technology review position in the Obamination regime.
They are going to pass as many leftist things as possible very very fast. They know Obama’s honeymoon will be pretty short.
The thing that really sucks about this is I am hitting high middle age and have developed some health issues. I joke with my 11 YO son that he will have to service my drool cup, but I really don’t think it will even come to that.
My 28 year old son just found out that his pacemaker battery has about 3 months of life left. The pacemaker was implanted in 1997. He is unemployed. The new battery will cost $4,000. The current game plan is to sell his vehicle to raise the money in time.
The "rationing" here is what the government will pay. I didn't see any limitations on what a private individual or insurance carrier can pay.
In 1984 at least you got your soma pills.
They will institute eugenics vouchers which would eliminate the cost and burden of caring for the dead weight of human waste.
This would apply only to mentally defectives, those with Downs Syndrome, Autism and the like. Those whose lives are deemed to be to costly to continue as the investment will not provide a meaningful return. The elderly, over 70, 80, 90? Who knows?
Those who breathe too much contributing more CO2 than they should.
This will all be done For the Greater Good. This will be done in the name of science and called a social program.
It will be hailed by intellectuals of the scientific community, the leaders of the business community, authors, poets and entertainers.
Research will be supported by major corporations and they spend enormous sums of money advertising the truth of this brave and bold new path.
...to each according to his needs.
But remember,
when the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the pursuit of knowledge is reduced to the quest for power.
Does not apply to drugs that treat AIDS or impotence.

Nazi Persecution of the Mentally and Physically Disabled
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/disabled.html
Forced sterilization in Germany was the forerunner of the systematic killing of the mentally ill and the handicapped. In October 1939, Hitler himself initiated a decree which empowered physicians to grant a “mercy death” to “patients considered incurable according to the best available human judgment of their state of health.”
The intent of the socalled “euthanasia” program, however, was not to relieve the suffering of the chronically ill. The Nazi regime used the term as a euphemism: its aim was to exterminate the mentally ill and the handicapped, thus “cleansing” the “Aryan” race of persons considered genetically defective and a financial burden to society.
Why not just start handing out shotguns to nurses? Much cheaper, though a little messier. /s
Logan’s Run...
bttt
His nomination hasn't even been confirmed yet, was it?
My only consolation is that Morphine is cheap.
When I get one of these diseases, no one will give me treatment, except the black market that I won’t be able to afford. My kids can snow me out, and I’ll go painlessly.
I guess a quick and easy death is all we have to look forward to.

Here it comes.
How is the stimulus bill tied to health care? I don’t understand.
Bump, I want to send this to my MIL, 40 years in medicine. She needs to see this info.
Healthcare has just gotten ridiculously expensive. I am losing all sympathy for doctors, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and health insurance providers. Doctors want to give you every kind of test perform every kind of procedure they can get away with just to jack up their fees. Hospitals jack you around so they can get their cut too. They all just want every dime they can soak you for, every penny they can get from your insurance provider and more. Insurance companies keep jacking their rates and providing us less and less coverage. Everybody just wants to get rich, and you pretty much have to be rich to get decent healthcare. My daughter and I had to get rabies shots recently. I only needed a couple of booster shots because I had them before. She needed the full course. We had to go through the hospital because no one else had the vaccine. After our expensive insurance paid all it was going to pay, we still owed well over five grand, for a few shots. Every time we went we had to wait several hours, even when we called in advance and asked them to please have the shots ready when we got there. I only had two shots in two weeks, my daughter had seven or eight over the course of several weeks. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the final bill. Our insurance premiums keep going up at a pace much faster than normal inflation, and coverage keeps getting worse. I don't know what the answer is but something needs to be done about this or the average guy won't be able to afford healthcare and the government will go broke providing what it provides.
