MANASSAS, Va., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday afternoon, Senator and former presidential hopeful, John McCain, announced the creation of his new grassroots organization named "Country First."
Commenting on the new organization, ConservativeHQ.com Chairman Richard Viguerie stated, "Senator John McCain is a General without an army. He's attempting to lead but he has no followers because his trumpet does not sound certain."
In a message sent to presidential supporters, Senator McCain described the new organization as an effort to "better define our Republican ideals and message, recruit and back, strong, dedicated candidates and continue our efforts to bring real reform to government."
Viguerie continued, "I'm not sure what Senator McCain is referring to when he talks about 'Republican ideals' but if it's along the lines of McCain-Feingold, amnesty for Illegal immigrants, carbon caps, 'gun show loopholes' or trillion-dollar Wall Street bailouts, I think he meant to say 'Big Government ideals'."
McCain, who lacked the backing of Conservatives until the selection of Governor Palin as his vice-presidential running mate, was a supporter of the trillion-dollar Wall Street bailout and was the primary driver behind the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (McCain-Feingold).
Senator McCain also advocated closing alleged "gun show loopholes" during his presidential campaign and teamed with Senator Joe Lieberman on legislation to develop a cap on carbon emissions to combat "man-made global warming."
"McCain is so out of sync with grassroots Republicans on many important issues that most campaign contributions are likely to come from his usual source of political contributors -- lobbyists and other corporate, big government interests," stated Viguerie.
Richard A. Viguerie pioneered political direct mail and has been called "one of the creators of the modern conservative movement" (The Nation magazine) and one of the "conservatives of the century" (The Washington Times).

Screw you McCain. My respect for you disappeared in the blink of an eye when you threw your running mate under the bus faster then you can say bailout. Then went on Letterman and Leno and laughed at her, yeah McCain, such an honorable guy.....NOT
Losers aren’t followed.
When I ran for city counsel my slogan was “Community First”.
Didn’t work for me either.
He ought to post on the Daily Kos. He’s got more in common with those nuts than mainstream America.
I’ll never forget the day McLAME wone ONE primary after losing many before that one, and the media proclaimed him the winner of it all.
I knew we were hosed right then.
The one and only good thing he ever did in the campaign was pick Palin.
McCain was the best candidate the GOP has put forward since...well, since Bob Dole!
The only thing this jackass is qualified to do, is to beat a wild retreat back to Arizona. And stay there...
Ditto.
McCain protected the Obama more than Gov. Palin (not that she needed the help).
Thank you for your service McCain. Now go away.
I can’t speak my true feelings toward Senator McCain without indulging in an expletive-laden tirade that would surely earn me at the very least a suspension of my posting privileges from this fine forum.
“Country First”: a socialist slogan one step away from “government first.”
Its like that scene in the movie “old School” where Will Ferrel strips and starts running, screaming “C’mon! We’re all going streaking!” ...then they cut to the scene with him alone running down the road naked.
The GOP sucks. I’m ashamed that I have voted for presidential nominees like GHWB, W, Dole and McLame over the years.
Funny analogy. Apt ...
**** off, John, and take your lame ass party with you.
Hell - the only reason he had the life experience to become a “hero”, was earned primarily because of his family connections in the Navy which prevented him from being scrubbed as a pilot and the fact he was too inattentive a pilot to avoid a SAM missile.
This country has far better men to lead..... Time to throw out the old failed insiders...
Maybe McCain should have asked Sarah Palin to head up his new organization.
*smirk/disgust* ....Why should WE TRUST you, Capt. Juan "Strawberries" McPain (State of Incompetent/RINO)...you screwed your local/state supporters / the Republicans and the Conservatives, (practically) every chance you got
...Just Go Home AND RETIRE...
former presidential hopeful, John McCain,
Go away, John McCain.
Right into my trash can,
Right into my trash can, Johnny boy.
IIRC, he did not throw Governor Palin under the bus. Again IIRC, some reporter made up some quotes by some fake adviser making up a fake quote of Palin calling Africa a country (On a side note, why didn’t we ever hear in the sexist MSM about Barack Obama saying there were 57 states, which was a true quote ... )

I got a fundbegging email from these clowns today. Told them to shove their movement back up their asses where it came from.
McCain didn’t defend her to the death either and went on late-night programs that deliberately mocked Sarah. My friend, you have no class. Sarah was the best thing that happened to your campaign. You allowed your own people to dump on her without telling them they were full of s**t. Shame on you. Thanks for putting Sarah on the ticket, but that’s all I’m going to thank you for.
mcloon has always been ready to ride at the sound of a camera shutter.
You're wrong. By not coming to Sarah's defence the SOB threw her under the bus.
‘...The problem is that the RNC is also so out of sync with the grassroots Republicans.
The 2006 losses of the House and Senate can’t be blamed on McCain. Those are because of the out-of-touch Republican leadership.
The 2008 nomination of McCain and subsequent loss represents further that the Republican leadership is out of sync with the grassroots....’
Hey John, you might want to visit FR to find out what the GOP base thinks about your chances.
Maybe it’s time you finally declared war on liberals. There is lots of government waste you could be railing against instead of just complaining about people on ‘your side of the aisle’ (as if that were really your side...).
I like Tom’s comments first person talking sensible reasoning and open dialogue.
Everyone on mccain threads just want to slam him and not try to find solutions for our country as a whole.
Republicans and America are losing, instead of government of the people and for the people, we should join McCain and others finding common ground we can move forward with instead of just complaining about his willingness to cross sides for common ground.
Without that tactic nothing gets done, anyone here have a real job, in public sector businesses would not run with your mentality here.
Technology has killed the election process. As long as anonymous foreign and other “ineligible” donors have the ability to fund candidates with no accountability, there will never be a conservative president.
Why do I picture McCain dressed in 18th century garb, shouting, "I am Napoleon?"
My feelings exactly.
Huh? Are you nuts?
He did come to Sarah’s defense ... several times in fact (definitely a lot more during the campaign, but also after the campaign during talk show appearances.) The media just did not wish to cover the truth.
The only, or rather the only significant, thing I fault McCain for was backing the bailout package. Had he not done that, he would have won the election and Obama would be out in the cold. He was up 3 points after the convention and an economic approach that differed substantively from the Bush administration’s corporate welfare approach would have put McCain over the top.
McCain did not have to select Palin (but he did because he had foresight) and, IMHO, McCain did not lose the election for the Republicans ... the Bush Administration’s liberal economic policies (such as the bailouts, $1200 checks to everybody - right out of a book on McGovernomics, and the deficit spending) did.
