That’s right. Anyone can be mistaken because of faulty memories of family members, etc., but if you’re going to publicly speak about it, you’d better know what you’re talking about.

According to someone on YouTube, this isn't the first time he's made such a claim about a relative in WWII. In 2002, he claimed his grandfather had "heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka." Now, normally I wouldn't post something from an unknown source on YouTube but he provides this link from Obama's own website as proof.

You would think that in referencing his grandfather hearing about Auschwitz that he would also mention his other relative who actually participated in the liberation of Auschwitz (or now Buchenwald as we're now told.). By the time Obama is done spinning, the story will be that it was his fifth cousin, twice removed, once spelled "Auschwitz" to win a 5th grade spelling bee, is what he meant to say. Uh, huh. And his uncle/great uncle must have dodged sniper fire on the way into the camp too, right?

His main goal, IMVHO, was to suck up to the Jews since he knows he’s in BIG trouble in the Jewish community so he figured he could kill a bunch of weaknesses w/ one stone; jews, veterans and attempting to claim his family is patriotic.

A sub camp?

apparently there were 87 sub camps of the Buchenwald network. Some were 200 miles away. Ohrdruf was about 50.
Obamas people are making it seem that they were next door like Columbia and Bernard. More like the Pac 10 I'd say.

In the cosmic scale of time six months is immediately. Like “your refund will be immediately sent out”. And “when I found the money I immediately returned it”.
Besides time worked slower back then.

He was also bringing up the issue to talk about how our wars leave our soldiers with mental problems. More “casualties” of “Bush's war”. He continued on that refrain after citing his “personal” anecdote.

Obama is unfit for the White House.

He thinks that the only way he can “represent” whatever group is to BE a part of whatever group. He needs to learn to be humble and humility. He must learn to acknowledge that there are some things he can never be (a WWII veteran is among them) but he can do what is within his power of president to look out for them and to try to repay their service to this country and to try to steer this country in a positive direction in living tribute to the things millions died fighting for.

They did not give their lives for the United States to become subservient to the third world court of public opinion.

I agree with you. I think the middle initial “W” listed in some of the geneology trees is possibly wrong. If you are a member of ancestry.com, and examine family trees, different trees have variations of the same name (misspelled, different initials, even different first names). I think the place listed on the induction list is more telling. Grandparents were in Augusta, the 1930 census lists the Payne family (Rolla and Leona Payne, children Madelyn, Charles and Arlene) living in Augusta, Butler County. Madelyn was married to Dunham at the time of Dunham’s enlistment and he was listed as in Augusta, Butler County. It just makes sense that a 17 year old brother would be living close to family and not in Kansas City.

Orddruf was liberatred by the 4th Armored Division and the 355th Infantry Regiment of the 89th Infantry Division.
The subset shrinks. Obama’s people must spi harder.

Perhaps since they have so many relatives i.e. Cheny, someone who was part of the liberation could be related.
He could call him his long lost Uncle . I'm sure the MSM will play ball.

Sweetness & Light tried contacting a website that proports to be unofficial site of the 89th Inf Division. They offer to help find info on members and S & L sent a very straight forward request on Charles Payne.

The site host turned out to be a Cindy Sheehan wannabe and answered the email with "Please crawl back under the rock you came out from."

A Query To The 89th Div’s Unofficial Website

After reading this, I too just sent a nicely worder request for info.

It seems to me that Obama has some explaining to do.  According to his genealogy records his great uncle is Charles W. Payne, who's father was born & died in Johnson county Kansas, therefore we can reasonable assume Charles was still living with his father at 18 years of age when he enlisted, and his enlistment board would definitely have been Wyandotte county.  Below is part of a monster table from the Kansas Historical Society on WWII veterans.

http://www.kshs.org/genealogists/military/wwiiveteransresults.php?page=421&branch=N

Payne, Charles T. Enlisted 13 December 1942, Navy 3427439 Unregistered Kansas City, Wyandotte Co. (Board # 4)
Payne, Charles W. Enlisted 10 November 1942, Navy 6293977 Registered, order # 12017 Kansas City, Wyandotte Co. (Board # 4)
Payne, Charles W. Enlisted , Navy 6287657 Registered, order # 11111 Hutchinson, Reno Co. (Board # 3)

So it appears that his great uncle was in the Navy and that makes his story nose-stretched even futher.

It was my great uncle, not my uncle as I claimed.  It was Buchenwald not Auschwitz as I claimed and he was in the Navy not in the Army as I claimed.  I also search Army enlistment and induction records and there is no Charles W Payne.

It seems that someone in the Obama campaign — unspecified “aides” — put out the info about Charlie Payne in the 89th Infantry Division. They’d better have the story right this time. I recall seeing on one of the threads that Charlie Payne is alive (he’d be around 84 y.o.) but who knows whether he wants to get dragged into this. Well who would? Well he might want to clear up any uncertainty about his service record but does he appreciate becoming a campaign prop in this way?

Does Charlie Payne like being Obama’s poster boy for PTSD?

Obama could have talked about PTSD without dragging his great-uncle into it, but telling the Auschwitz, oops, he meant Buchenwald tale added so much emotional resonance (and an appeal to Jews)..... did Charlie Payne want to be part of this very public discussion about his post-WWII state of mind? Now the left will try to “blame the bloggers” but it is Obama whose preposterous statement about Auschwitz brought up the subject.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/05/27/politics/main4130449.shtml

“Aides said Tuesday that his grandmother’s brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.”

Putting aside this controversy for a moment - I want to point out: It was Obama’s “typical white ancestors” (Grandfather, Great-Uncle) from Kansas that signed up to serve the USA during WWII. Yet upon reading “dreams of my Father” Barry only finds his identity with the likes of America Haters Jeremiah Wright, and Chicago left-wing machine politics. Obviously - the loyal and patriotic part of his family wasn’t suitable for an “identity” - but IS suitable to be trotted out of the “attic” when politics requires.
