Le Pen: Auschwitz didn't have gas chambers
Extreme right-wing leader repeats claim that no Jews were gassed or burned at Nazi death camps, says Auschwitz inmates worked as laborers for factory
Far-right leader Jean-Marie Le Pen sparked a chorus of outrage in France on Friday by repeating an incendiary claim that the Nazi gas chambers were a "detail of history."
Anti-racism and Jewish groups threatened immediate legal action against the National Front chief - who already holds several similar convictions - after he made the comments in a magazine interview.
"I said the gas chambers were a detail of the history of World War II: that, to me, seems so obvious," the 79-year-old Le Pen told Bretons magazine.
Le Pen was fined 1.2 million francs ($290,000) for making the initial remarks in a radio interview in 1987.
When the Bretons journalist told him that the Nazis "deported people to camps simply to kill them," Le Pen replied: "But that is what you believe. I don't feel obliged to adhere to that view."
"I observe that in Auschwitz there was the IG Farben factory, there were 80,000 laborers working there. As far as I know they were not gassed, anyway, nor burned."

And he probably thinks the ovens were for baking bread! Idiot.
We expect at every moment the trumpets announcing Le Pen's appointment to the growing staff of Hussein Obama Twelfth Imam from Chicago.
I dare not posit the correct penalty for Le Pen, something to make Stephen King's work seem absolutely Muppetish.
Before I visited Auschwitz no one told me about the half warehouse of human hair Nazis shaved off victims before they were gassed in the ‘shower’ or cremated in ovens. No one told me there would be half a warehouse of shoes belonging to victims. No one mentioned I would see furniture and car seats stuffed with human hair. Nor was I prepared to see bound books and lampshades made of human skin.
Guess old Jean-Marie never saw the blueprints or read Hoess’ autobiography, eh?
Probably thinks the Wansee Conference was a parent=teacher meeting.
Why, oh, why does the Right in France choose to be associated with anti-semitic trash like this?
I dont remember the name of the TV program, but remember watching a dramatization of the Wansee Conference years ago on the discovery channel (mayhap the History channel?). Most chilling program Ive ever watched.
By WHOSE yardstick is this moron referred to is a member of the RIGHT?
I’ve been to Dachau.
Those weren’t shower rooms I saw...
My aunt Irene's family died horrible deaths in a "detail of history."
Thanks for posting this, Hal. It should serve as a reminder that useless idiots everywhere can and do believe anything.

Okay. So how about a good old-fashioned
a$$-kicking for starters ???? :^D
Big Red One.
Leftists mask their alter ego by calling it Far Right...
You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age-old dream-the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, “The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.

But they were! Why, I thought everyone was familiar with:
"Be he alive, or be he dead, I shall grind his bones to make my bread!"
I might be mistaken, but didn't Hitler believe that Jooooo-bone bread was an aphrodesiac, and ordered the SS to eat a loaf a day, to keep up their rape quotas?
Yes, Le Pen IS an idiot.
A close relative helped liberate one of those camps, and could rarely bring himself to ever say anything about it.
“Far-right leader.”
For those in need of history lessons, the “N” in Nazi stands for “National Socialist.”
Hitler was an avowed socialist.
Besides a strong military, Hitler and the Nazis despised EVERY value that right-wing Americans cherish.
What a sad and pathetic man. Where is Sarkozy? If LePen is truly a rightist, then this is an opportunity for Sarkozy to purge France of its traditional anti-semitism and to denounce something that can be used by Muslim fanatics in France. But most of all, to do something that is so obviously the right thing.
First I have ever heard of this not that I would put it past ol Hitler, just cant believe that a Jew hating country and ideology that was the Third Reich, would eat anything that was Jewish, especially their burnt (cooked) flesh.
Try long enough and I will get it right. Sorry.
Second, it is one of the great tragedies of our time that the socialist elites who run Europe fail to understand that by failing to fight Islamic fascism, they open the door to classical fascism, which the masses will turn to in desperation.
“...those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path.”
A profound thought that we should all keep in mind.
Hear,hear!
I've been there myself. The showers were there, but were never put into use before the liberation of the camp.I got into an argument with someone over this, until I looked it up in the picture book I had bought in the museum and showed him the paragraph that explained this.
France - Le Pen:
1) Auschwitz didn’t have gas chambers
2) the french are a world power
3) the french have showers but choose NOT to use them
at least one of these statements is true!!!!
There was a German reenactment [shot in the actual villa, but HBO did a movie, “Conspiracy”, with a top notch cast: Kenneth Branaugh as Heydrich, Stanley Tucci as Eichmann, Colin Firth as Wilhem Stuckart... Excellent job.
that makes me dizzy to think about....that they still have those items is amazing
Le Pen is too idiotic to realize that the purpose of the IG Farben factory at Auschwitz was to manufacture the lethal Zyklon B gas that was used strictly for the purpose of mass killing. Those "laborers" working at the "factory" were slaves used to help kill their fellow camp inmates. And the "laborers" would generally be sent to the gas chmbers themselves after they became too ill or disabled to work in the "factory."
When I first saw the hair and shoes, seriously I went into shock; it was as if a horse had kicked me in the stomach.
In the nearby village prior to arriving, I bought a bouquet of red roses with the idea of placing them ‘somewhere.’ I left them on a crematorium.
Setting just inside a shower room was a can with a paper label of what may have been cyclon B. Presumably, it was there for effect. It certainly affected me.
The horror and profound sadness of that day is etched in my memory forever.
My father went to see Schindler’s List by himself in a movie theater. When it came to the scene where the Jews’ belongings were all sorted in the town square, shoes here, jewelry there, glasses over there, into piles, my father walked out of the theater.
He told us, “I saw it the first time” (when he was a seven-year-old child).
Ping!
The most parsimonious explanation would be that many of them find his views on such matters congenial, or at best inconsequential.
Thanks, Yaelle. Poor little boy having to live with those memories all his life. I can understand him walking out of the theatre. I wouldn’t see the movie; I wouldn’t visit a death camp again. For tragedies in life, it’s better to not look back...

Well done potlatch -
BTW Your home page is AWESOME!
Thank you for your thoughtfulness, potlatch. Well done. I’m emailing it to a few people.
All y’all might like to see this.
He was in one of the units that helped liberate one of the concentration camps, and one of the Stalags too.
One of the POW's (8th Army AirForce) was a fellow that grew up two houses down from him.
One of the few times I saw my father with tears in his eyes, was when he spoke of what he saw at the camps.
Thanks devolve
Good! I’m glad that you can make use of it.
Eh, Jean...even the Boches admit they were gassing Jews. You sad bastard.
I think you are absolutely wrong on this. There are many, many false stories about the Germans' labor and death camps, contra and pro national socialism. To understand really what went on, one should step back from a focus on gas chambers and consider that Auschwitz was a slave labor complex (synthetic fuels, rubber, some armaments, etc.). The complex was centered around Auschwitz-Birkenau and Auschwitz-Monowitz. The place was Utilitarian, in the most evil sense of the term. People were "sorted." Those who could not produce, were eliminated. Diet and disease-suppression were designed "optimally" to manage the input-output of the system. Labor was balanced by costs of nutrition and disease prevention.
The raw human material shoveled into the system came from non-citizen classes - Jews in Nazi occupied areas automatically fell into this group, but others did too, including "criminals." But the main objective of the system was not to kill Jews specifically, nor to kill anyone simply for the purpose of killing. That would have been a waste of resources. The point was to use human beings as industrial raw material. Culling the herd was indeed part of the program, but by focusing on the killing part this actually reduces the horror of what went on.
It is as if we are drawn to the gas chambers because it perversely comforts us. If what the Nazis did would have been irrational, non-human pure evil, we could say that it is not at all like us. We want Hitler to be Satan, his works outside of our comprehension, none of his works to be the logical extension of what we do in our every day lives.
On Auschwitz specifically and the "final solution" more generally, I highly recommend Richard Rubenstein's The Cunning of History.

Well darn, that could have saved me a couple of hours work as I put it all together on a webpage and then took a screenshot to make it a graphic!!
