"Democrats have spoken on how this package can be improved," said Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. And as usual they got it wrong.

heating aid for the poor What the hell does that have to do with the economy?
To: BradtotheBone
Under Reid's plan for Senate action on the stimulus package, the Senate could vote as early as Monday on a bill that would tack $32 billion onto the House measure with rebates of $500-$1,000 to all but the richest taxpayers, with more for families with children. My guess is that anybody that actually pays tax will have to count these rebates next year against their 2008 taxes, thereby increasing their tax liability (or reducing any refund they would be due) on April 15, 2009. (Of course the people that don't pay taxes will get to keep their "rebate".)

Free money for everyone including illegal aliens with ITINs. Dems doing what they do best... buying votes with my tax money. Harry Reid would never treat his personal finances the way he treats Federal tax money he took from me. Arnold Schwartzenegger also spends like a drunken sailor and no way does he manage his own money (he’s worth north of $200 million) that way. If he did he would be worth only $10 million

I'm sitting in my car with the motor running, and my bank deposit slip filled out.
We are sr. citizens who pay taxes on our retirement and SS. Does this mean we won't get a check unless they include srs.?
Just curious--not holding my breath.

If none of their proposals attracts enough backing to win approval, the Senate will pass the House measure, Reid said.
hold firm, boys & girls !

I thought Reid & Pelosi dont want the rich to get rebates. Sorry, but $300K a year dont sound like poor to me. The poor don't pay income taxes, so why should they be the ones getting an additional income tax rebate? Both plans already give a lot of people "back" money they don't pay.

This annoys me to NO END! Isn't the nearly 9 TRILLION dollars You, Me, our friends and relatives, even freakin' Democrats that actually HAVE jobs, all paid in last YEAR enough? How is there not ENOUGH to go around? (Yes, that's rhetorical.) Bread and Circuses! Grrrrr!

As I understand it and I could be wrong, it's happened before. If you make more than $3,000 and less than $150,000, you get it.

Interesting that the ‘Senate’ plan ensures that Congresscritters are included in the rebate program...

I'm with you. I grew up dirt poor and have busted my arse for the past 35 years for the priviledge to earn too much. I don't get crap in this deal and I am pissed. Me too.
I hope everyone has fun spending my money! Believe it or not, I worked hard to earn it and with two kids in college I wouldn't have minded getting some of it back.
I have half a mind to quit my second job, lower my income and the associated taxes and just enjoy myself more...

Stop calling it rebates. It’s welfare.
To: Graybeard58
I think you have to be earning from a paycheck to get anything but it could be just 3k in taxable income or more.
