Give everyone a million dollars and be done with it.

I could probably be the democrat nominee with a plan like that.

Only if you don’t earn “too much”.

Now, if you had a dozen kids and made 3k a year (and paid no taxes), you’d get the maximum amount “rebated”.

Democrats said it would be difficult for senators to oppose sending rebate checks to seniors

I thought we already did that on a regular basis...it's called SS and Medicare. end/sarcasm

Democrats said it would be difficult for senators to oppose sending rebate checks to seniors, who also have been lobbying intensively to be included in the stimulus bill.

God, how I hate supporting this bunch in Washington, DC - also at state and local levels. I wish they would all just STFU and go home and leave people alone.

Yep, I earn “too much”.

Which means I pay too much in taxes to deserve a taxpayer rebate.

Hell, you could have won by promising a few hundred dollars in savings on a Medicare pharmaceutical rider.

Did they ever resolve on whether or not to give Puerto Rico a “income tax rebate” even tho they don’t pay income taxes?........

A letter to the editor in my paper yesterday said this:

The gov. should reduce the witholding tax for 6 months to a year and cut the federal gasoline tax for 6 months.

Seems like a better idea than anything coming out of Washington. The Dems would never go for it because only benefit would go to people who actually pay income taxes.

“The Senate measure would deliver flat rebates of $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples to anyone earning at least $3,000, with income limits of $150,000 for individuals and $300,000 for couples. The rebate would phase out for those making more, disappearing altogether for individuals with income of $160,000 for individuals and $320,000 for couples. The caps would be higher for those with children.”

I thought Reid & Pelosi don’t want the “rich” to get rebates. Sorry, but $300K a year don’t sound like poor to me. IMy guess is that it is that high so that Congress critters get a check for themselves.

Actually, I’m against the whole idea of rebates. I “might” get one, but it would be beer money(wife and I together don’t make $75K). Besides, by the time they get around to actually sending out checks, it won’t make a dime’s worth of difference.

If none of their proposals attracts enough backing to win approval, the Senate will pass the House measure, Reid said.

There's the money quote. I was hoping they'd lard it up so much that GWB would veto it. But it looks like the "improved" version (which adds $30-$50B, not porky enough to bother GWB I bet) is Plan A, and if they can't get together on that then they just pass the House version as is and be done with it. The checks will go out.

So even after today's incredible stock market move (I think at least partially based on this very Senate revelation), I wouldn't bet against stocks going down below this morning's low for quite some time.

I have a better idea on withholding -

get rid of it, and move tax day to Halloween, a week or two before election day.

“Give everyone a million dollars and be done with it”

If Hildabeast sends those checks out she’ll want to gift wrap them first and sign all the cards.
