A lot of current movies just are not worth seeing - but - the graphics are great .... so sometime I just go to see how the graphics were done and not bother with listening to dialog .. Funniest movie I saw this year "Dragon Wars". Great graphics, 1960's Japanese Godzilla movie acting.
I spent the movie snickering and getting elbowed by my husband until a fight scene came up.

Rotten tomatoes is more than just critics. It is also normal viewers. It is most often pretty dependable for an average kind of person, like me.
I watch movies and guess the tomato meter rating. When I go look it up, I get pretty good agreement between RottenTomatoes and myself.

I don’t think the movie is so much the issue as the book series it’s based on. The concern is, they will see a cleaned up version of the anti-God rant and then go buy the books, assuming they are similar. Parents in particular might think the book series is harmless fun whereas it obviously is not.

WHERE IS THE NARNIA RPG? Something very much like it has been out for years; it's called "DragonRaid". Your d10 rolls set up your Fruits Of The Spirit scores, and skills are tallied off of them. I found the game a little too High Church, so I wrote some mods to make it a bit more like other RPG's. You can find a good overview of both at my site...

And Hairspray.
It kills me that I have a trailer for “Golden Compass” on my Hairspray disc.
It’s okay because my girls just scoot past it to look at Zac Efron anyway so no problem.

Go see Enchanted!!!!!!!
It is amazing and encourages Disney to do more hand drawn animation. It’s beautiful. We’ve see it twice.

It looks interesting, but I was thinking something officially endorsed. Unless it carries the Narnia name, it will be a cult hit at best (unforunately).

C.S. Lewis he ain't. Supposedly J.K Rowling based Gilderoy, one of the characters in the Potter series, upon the author of these books.
Gilderoy Lockhart?

"The problem is, the Catholic League will give this movie more publicity than it deserves."No, dogg, it was a calculated risk, to keep the rest of the trilogy from being made -- and in all likelihood, that will be the ultimate outcome.

"Im gonna disagree with you on this one. This is a major studios major release for the holidays. The Catholic League comments and discussion thereof will be swamped by the movies advertising. The basic word of the authors intent will get through to balance the studios subterfuge."You -- are wrong. No way to get Daniel and ex-Mrs. Xenu on the talkheads with the writer's strike.
They went overbudget long before that revoltin' development, and they know they'll be lucky to break even with international.

"Perhaps, but at least they aren't plucking it out of obscurity (it has a decent ad budget) nor hammering it so hard that they are "forcing" people to see it to make up their own minds." Yep. Good post. The MSM invites Big Bill on, hoping he'll embarrass himself, and he never does, and he manages to get the message across while just-this-close to being over the top. Mater Dei!

Yes, and apparently the vivid, in-your-face anti-christianity in the latter books more than make up for the flaccid effort in the movie.

Even without PR appearances, the studio is spending almost $60 million on prints and advertising.

Here’s more:
The Hollywood Reporter (November 6, 2007 - registration required) mentions the $150 million production budget, and says that New Line and “a bevy of blue-chip brands ...Are committing more than $50 million in marketing and promo support for Compass”. The studio is quoted as estimating that the “total value of brand-backed marketing is $120 million.”

I don’t think the League’s ad budget is in that league. :)
