Golden Compass Getting Bad Reviews

Christians staying away from a movie that wants to "Kill God in the minds of children" isn't the only challenge facing the new film Golden Compass. The critics just don't like it.

My favorite review from the link:

"the toned-down movie version isn't so much anti-religion as it is anti-entertainment."

ROTFL

The problem is, the Catholic League will give this movie more publicity than it deserves.

Good.

When I saw the trailers I wanted to see the movie.

When I heard about the idiot who wrote the story, I decided not to.

Hope he looses his shirt.

Just for fun I entered the zip code for Back Bay Boston to find out where 'Redacted' is playing and got:

"No theaters were found. Please enter another zip code or date."

Those guys never lose their shirts, though he may have a hard time selling a second screenplay.

“Those guys never lose their shirts, though he may have a hard time selling a second screenplay.”

I hope not, it would be a tragedy. I mean what better use is there for liberal money then to waste it on movies nobody will see.

The movie's gonna flop like the last Matrix. And then, Prince Caspian is going to tapdance on its corpse.

I’m gonna disagree with you on this one. This is a major studio’s major release for the holidays. The Catholic League comments and discussion thereof will be swamped by the movie’s advertising. The basic word of the author’s intent will get through to balance the studio’s subterfuge.

Were it a smaller offering I’d agree, but in this case, no.

Didn;t they loose their shirt on that crappy anti-Iraqi war movie starring the usual suspects? I can’t remember the name of it.

I know that the trailers for this movie look bad. I wouldn’t waste my money seeing it. But that’s my choice.

It’s not up to Hollywood to say whether or not God will be killed in the minds of our children. It is up to the PARENTS to raise their children in a faith and belief in God. Who the hell is hollywood anyway? Who the hell is Nicole Kidman anyway??? She’s an ACTOR that’s all.

PARENTS, PARENTS, PARENTS....it is up to YOU to teach and guide your children. They come into your life and live with you years before they step out into the world. Give them good, solid, basics. Give them their sense of faith in God. Give them respect for God, country and family. Send them out the door that first day with confidence knowing who they are. Be a parent. Raise the child that has been entrusted to your care.

Don’t let them go to the movies to see all kinds of trash and certainly don’t allow it in your home. Even thinking about a movie like this when we were growing up woudl be laughable because we knew better!!!

Hollywood is not in charge of your family...YOU ARE!!!

I like how the NY Post's Kyle Smith summarized it: The Chronicles of Yawnia.

I don’t think so. The Catholic League is only one of may organizations getting the word out. Otherwise, people would have assumed that this was another Narnia story, especially since it’s sponsored by the producers of the Lord of the Rings.

The result of the campaign will not only to hurt movie sales, but to seriously damage the reputation of New Line Cinema among parents concerned for their families. It will be the same as what happened to Walt Disney Studios, who tossed away their reputation as a trusted family oriented company, and will never get it back again.

Newline also was responsible for the Austin Power movies, as well as The Lord of the Rings. That’s OK, because those movies weren’t marketed for little kids, and people who saw them knew what they were getting. But this time they’ve gone over the line.

The very concept of trying to kill God is ludicrous in the first place. But for someone to spend their life and money to fight against someone they don’t even believe in that goes beyond madness. I don’t believe in ______(fill in the blank), but if you want to believe...go ahead and have fun, who should care? Truth is, down in their hearts, they know God is real and they must spend their lives convincing themselves that He’s not, at all costs.
“It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that the judgment”.

"They" may have lost their shirts, but "they" never includes the screenwriter, who gets his cash up front, plus residuals (if any).
