Karl Rove: Send Lawyers, Guns and Money
The National Ledger ^ | 10/10/2005 | Chris Davis

Posted on 10/11/2005 5:11:47 PM PDT by writer33

Washington—Karl Rove, forced to testify a fourth time before the grand jury, wants Americans to send lawyers, guns and money in an attempt to save him from the impending grand jury indictment. The reason Rove is required to testify a fourth time is to explain the discrepancy between Time reporter Matthew Cooper and his own grand jury testimony. Apparently, the excrement has hit the fan, and Rove is in hot water with prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s two-year-old investigation was initiated to determine whether officials Bush’s administration violated a 1982 law designed to protect the identity of covert Central Intelligence Agency agents. The prosecutor also is examining whether any officials lied or obstructed justice in the course of the investigation, and is ready to put people in jail.

Reportedly, Rove told President Bush and others that he never engaged in an effort to disclose a CIA operative’s identity to discredit her husband’s criticism of the administration’s Iraq policy. It’s also said that Rove’s denial to Bush occurred in fall 2003, a few months after media reports revealed that former Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, worked as a covert CIA operative.

According to reports, those with knowledge of evidence gathered in the criminal investigation spoke on condition of anonymity because of grand-jury secrecy, and were ready to nail Rove if he even blinked wrong.

Saturday, the New York Times and the Washington Post reported that Fitzgerald will meet Tuesday with freed Times reporter Judith Miller, who has compiled notes on a conversation she had with Libby. The conversation of June 25, 2003, is in addition to two others previously disclosed.

So, Rove is testifying a fourth time, ready to face the music, meaning that the grim news of an indictment could surface, turning the White House upside down and removing the man responsible for Bush’s elections in 2000 and 2004. Many have said that sources close to prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, intend to go all the way to the top, even if that means impeachment proceedings.

The discussion with Bush reportedly did not get into specifics concerning Rove’s contacts with Time magazine’s Matthew Cooper and Chicago Sun-Times syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who wrote stories identifying Plame. But as the probe gets deeper, things are getting stickier for the White House. Rove’s attorney, Robert Luskin, noted that Rove has not received any notification that he is a target of the grand jury investigation.

“What this may well indicate is that Fitzgerald wants to review some of Rove’s previous testimony,” said James Cole, a former Justice Department prosecutor who is now a partner at Bryan Cave LLP in Washington. “Usually, when a witness is called back, it’s to review what they said before in light of some new information. Try to catch them in a lie so to speak.”

“I want to see some more subpoenas,” said Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-MA. “It’s time we ended the five year reign of terror!”

“With this fourth trip to the grand jury,” commented Sen. Arlen Specter, R-PA. “It’s no wonder I have trouble supporting the Bush administration or any of his nominees to the Supreme Court. This administration thinks they can get away with murder.”

“I’m sick and tired of this administration getting involved in scandal after scandal,” screeched Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY. “It’s time for a new direction for this country. It’s time for Democratic leadership again.”

“I’m on board with the prosecutor,” said Sen. Susan Collins, R-ME. “Why else would he even summon Rove if he wasn’t guilty? I think we all know where this is headed.”

Rove, Bush’s top adviser on political strategy and policy, is said to have known the president for three decades. He reportedly worked for Bush as far back as 1978, when he unsuccessfully ran for Congress. Rove is also said to have orchestrated Bush’s campaigns for Texas governor and president, and then brought his political skills into the White House.

This time, however, Rove may have created its own version of Hurricane Katrina, wiping away five years of hard work and conservative effort to transform a nation. As October 28, 2005 nears, America wonders if the walls of Jericho will come a tumblin’ down.

Will Karl Rove be frog marched out of the White House in a perp walk? Only time and prayer will tell. It seems that the only thing that will save President Bush and Karl Rove is lawyers, guns and money.

You got me! This sounded a lot like what I heard on Chrissy Mathhews this evening. I'm usually pretty good at picking out these satire pieces, but this one seemed real.

My God, you almost gave me a heart attack! I was swallowing hook, line, sinker until the Arlen Specter line. Don't get me wrong, Arlen would probably say that very thing, but it would be "off the record", which was the giveaway.
