That's why I make it a point not to have chimpanzees over for dinner... They are just so rude.

I wonder if they were playing music by the Monkees? That could do it!

From article :
West Covina officials mounted a campaign to rid the city of Moe. Animal-lovers mounted a counter-campaign, financed by bake sales and raffles

--> Animal lovers take it too far sometimes too.

"Chimpanzees have a real sense of right and wrong and fairness and unfairness," said Fouts ....

Too bad they don't have a real sense that a .45 caliber pistol can blow their brains out.

Where's the PC crowd when you need them. Suddenly, all chimps are bad. I think there's a lot of chimp-o-phobia going on here.

Basic question is how did they get out in the first place? There is the possibility that they were released to participate in the party, a well meaning but stupid move. But consistent with treating a chimp like a human. They are not.

But that should come out in the investigation.

Monkeys and baboons are known to kill women and children in Africa. I hate them...their "press" is overrated...

Usually, when the crops of maize are ripe, the monkeys/baboons raid the fields. The Africans post men in the fields because the monkeys will badly harm anyone smaller than a large man. But sometimes they would even attack a single man...

During harvest season, our priest, who had a legal rifle, would go out and shoot baboons and the locals would hang the corpses near the rocks where the baboons would hide...then usually they'd leave the crops alone when they saw a man nearby, usually this would work for a year or two before we'd have to teach them the same lesson over again...

Prayers for the Davis'.

My husband worked with Dr. Fowler at Washington State Univ. in the 90's. chimps are NOT the kind lovable almost humans they are portrayed to be. They are full of emotions and act on them. They are horribly powerful and NEVER to be trusted. The people hubby worked with NEVER turned their backs on them and ALWAYS treated them with the respect that their strength and emotionality deserve. With extreme caution. Even when the chimps would give them sign language names (the chimps would name the humans, yes indeed).

I feel for these people. They were there to see Moe, who likely would never have hurt a member of someone he considered part of his group. The other two, (and Jealousy would have been a factor along with rage and a ton of other stuff)not being part of their group - according to the social rules chimps follow - would have considered the Davis' fair game, outsiders, infiltrators, and worthy of extermination. The male first, then the female human as males chimps consider other males more dangerous.

I really feel for these folks. They did nothing wrong. I want to know how the hell these other 2 murderous animals were ABLE to get out of their cages. Cause with out a doubt, had that happened at WSU, it would have been considered a SERIOUS emergency and the guns would have come out in rather short order. They take a LOT of safeguards to make sure that it doesn't.

Thanks for your stories. Before this story, I knew chimps and gorillas were powerful, but I didn't know ones in capitivity could go "ape" like this. I was watching Ripley's the other night and a guy had a pet chimp that he had taught martial arts. The chimp had a honorary black belt. He was very good with his flying kicks. Sounds like they are dangerous enough as it is--wouldn't want to mess with one that knows martial arts as well.

Imagine finding four gorillas inside your home???????Beyond stupidity and negligence.

Hopefully there will be an investigation as to the security of this operation.

So you believe that somehow the loose chimps KNEW that the cake was for Moe?

Hardly likely and I hope you aren't falling for that type of sentimentality.
