Monkeys and baboons are known to kill women and children in Africa. I hate them...their "press" is overrated...

Usually, when the crops of maize are ripe, the monkeys/baboons raid the fields. The Africans post men in the fields because the monkeys will badly harm anyone smaller than a large man. But sometimes they would even attack a single man...

During harvest season, our priest, who had a legal rifle, would go out and shoot baboons and the locals would hang the corpses near the rocks where the baboons would hide...then usually they'd leave the crops alone when they saw a man nearby, usually this would work for a year or two before we'd have to teach them the same lesson over again...

Thanks for your stories. Before this story, I knew chimps and gorillas were powerful, but I didn't know ones in capitivity could go "ape" like this. I was watching Ripley's the other night and a guy had a pet chimp that he had taught martial arts. The chimp had a honorary black belt. He was very good with his flying kicks. Sounds like they are dangerous enough as it is--wouldn't want to mess with one that knows martial arts as well.

Leftists and taxes would serve as an apt analogy in your story about baboons and other's crops.

"Diet: Plant material, insects."

The above error is from the article. Actually, chimps' diet includes any meat they can obtain from extremely aggressive, coordinated hunting. A Discovery Channel special had a scene showing a tribe of them hunting and killing a monkey. Watching it, the main thing I could think of was how easy it would be for them to do the same thing to a human. One of the great things about TDC is it shows wild animals how they actually are and doesn't go in so much for the "cuddly, furry friends" approach.

people forget that chimps and other apes are wild animals. They are very very strong . I read somewhere how much psi their jaw pressure was- I forget the figure but it was more than enough to make me realize a bite could severe a body part no problem. Also many people who get those cute little chimps are in for a shock when the chimp reaches puberty. Raging hormones in a chimp are not pretty. Needless to say no one in their right mind wants to be around a super strong sexually jealous primate. Add that to the fact they are territorial you have mayhem in the making.

Why would the chimps tear off his testicles?
