These people visited this chimp and showered it with attention.
I don't know your experience with animals but I've had DOGS who would have known who that cake was for and acted out.

I think on some Jane Goodall video I have they killed a baboon.
Yikes. His wife is right--he won't be the same. I feel sorry for the guy, but in the story I posted in post #25 from 2000, they didn't seem to feel too sorry for the woman who had her finger bitten off by Moe--they made excuses for him.

The above error is from the article. Actually, chimps' diet includes any meat they can obtain from extremely aggressive, coordinated hunting. A Discovery Channel special had a scene showing a tribe of them hunting and killing a monkey. Watching it, the main thing I could think of was how easy it would be for them to do the same thing to a human. One of the great things about TDC is it shows wild animals how they actually are and doesn't go in so much for the "cuddly, furry friends" approach.

It looks like a lot of us on this thread enjoy the Discovery Channel.
Something similar was in the video of chimps about Jane Goodall's work. It followed the story of Flo and her children. One of Flo's last kids was Flint. He was a spoiled brat and still insisted on nursing even after she had one more baby. He was very jealous of that infant. The infant disappeared. I don't know if they ever found it but they suspected he did it in. You should have seen how happy he was once he was the baby again. Flo was old and she died not so long after. Flint couldn't get over it and wouldn't eat after her death and died a few weeks later.
So the chimps escaped hours earlier because they overheard the birthday cake plans?

Whoa! Hey, most of my friends and co-workers are primates. Should I be concerned?
That is exactly what I've heard also. My business partner's son worked at Yerkes (sp) Primate Center in Atlanta while he was in college. His job was to feed and care for the various primates they have at the center. He has a lot of stories about how vicious primates are and in particular chimps and orangs.
Follow this: The chimps escape. They are doing whatever chimps do when they escape.
The couple arrives.
The chimps see them and remember them. They attack.
I've seen dogs do this. What problem do you have with this?
Animals don't have human intelligence but they do have social structure and they simply look at humans as other of what they are. That's why they're dangerous.
Chimps are smarter than greman sheperds and I've seen german sheperds to things that require as much recognition as this attack did. I've seen a dog launch an attack that required MORE functioning brain circurits than this particular attack did.

Could be .45 Long Colt or ACP w/clips. Lot of different models. 12 gauge would have been better.
